Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1977 film Chinese Roulette features Anna Karina as Irene Cartisse, the stylish French mistress caught in a weekend of upper class melodrama, Munich mansions, crippled children, plexiglass interiors, dead deer, and psychological parlor games.
Fashion Fetish: Anna is in wealthy Bohemia splendor as she sports fringed scarves, auburn hair, smokes cigarillos, and paces nervously in fetching 1940-cum-1970s-style heels, this is a lady who can pull it together enough to do some serious accessorizing. For demure daywear she opts for a floral-printed skirt and red-lacquered nails, but for night-time melodramatics, Anna busts out a slinky one-shouldered silver printed gown, T-bar shoes, and completely wraps her hair in a black fringe scarf for that fancy-but-uncomfortable-Germanic-dinner-party look.
