A Stylish Tryst: Maria Schneider in Last Tango in Paris

Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris (1973) stars Maria Schneider as Jeanne, a Parisian caught between the destructive sexual relationship with a middle-age brute and the comparatively dull life with her pretentious director fiancee. Jeanne's sexy 1970's afternoon tryst attire is provocatively chic, and perfect for her saucy double life. Her personal dramas are played out in an empty apartment with a belted micro mini under a mink strewn coat. With hair left curly or pinned under her flowered fedora, Jeanne pairs leather stacked heel or flat riding boots with a brown quilted leather bag and wraps friendship beads around a simple silver bangle. Jeanne likes to apply dark eyeshadow naked except for a black scarf and cluttered sink top (but don't we all?), plays la musique pop on vinyl wearing a loose knit top, and gets creative in a long knitted scarf and cute fly-button denim flares. Overwhelmed by degradation, Jeanne downs whisky in a plaid fitted blazer and finally puts an end to her sexy issues and destructive double life.
While we love naughty Parisian trysts and large, empty apartments we would also settle for a few of Jeanne's saucy ensembles instead. Try the lamb-fur parka by 3.1 Phillip Lim , the belted mini dress by Publika or the blazer with scarf by Alexander Wang with the caramel Telegram boot by Rachel Comey or a sweet pair of vintage Ferragamo riding boots. Wear a loose-knit sweater by Tom Scott, cable-knit scarf by Hortensia and '70s style flared jeans by Denim and Thread and grab the Jerome Dreyfuss Franky bag and wrap the beaded herringbone chain by Lisa Levine around your wrist Jeanne style. We'll leave all her other preferences to your own discretion.
