Sweet Surf Style Is A Shore Thing At This Hand-Painted Board Event
While we fantasize about hanging 10 and catching killer waves à la Kate Bosworth in Blue Crush, it actually takes a lot of effort just to dip our toes in these cold S.F. waters. But, with warmer weather rolling in and rash guards popping up on runways, we've got surfing on the brain.
We've already got the seaside beauty look down pat with our waterproof mascara and tousled waves, now all we need is a surfboard (and the skills!). But, if we're going to go all-out and invest in one, we won't be settling for just any ol' hunk of wood. Which is why the Board Art Benefit is the perfect opportunity to step up our surf style. With one-of-a-kind boards decorated by S.F. artists like General Store's Serena Mitnik-Miller, Kim Cogan, and more — we plan to place our bids on these eye-catching options. And hey, if taking up surfing falls through, at least we'll have a sweet work of art.
In addition to the lovely longboards, there will be cold brews and live tunes to add to the beachy bash. So, mark your iCals, because this one is not to be missed. Now, where did we leave the SPF?
When: Saturday, June 9, 6 to 10 p.m.
Where: Driftwood Salon Art Gallery, 39 Isis Street (Near 12th and Folsom streets); No phone.

Boo Announces New Based-In-S.F. Book, We Collapse From Cuteness
If there's one thing you know we love...it's the World's Cutest Dog (and Bay Area native) Boo! Need proof? Check out our roundup of Boo's greatest looks and tips on how your own pooch can copy them. Sidenote: Boo Facebooked this story to his 4.4 million fans, which pretty much made our lives. #notsohumblebrag
And the mega-adorbs pup has now made our week by announcing his second book with S.F.-based publisher Chronicle Books! What's more: The heart-warming tome, dubbed Boo: Little Dog In The Big City, takes place in both our and Boo's backyard, of good ol' San Francisco!
Chronicle leaked a few images from the soon-to-come book (check them out after the jump) and — brace yourself — there are pics of the pup driving a mini Benz with Victorian homes behind him, rolling around in Alamo Square park (giving the Painted Ladies a run for their money), riding a cable car, trotting along the beach in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, and shopping our finest boutique. Um, have you passed out from cute overload yet?
Personally, we are already scanning the net for any mentions of a Boo book signing hitting the Bay in the near future. We suppose in the meantime we could always buy one of these limited-edition Boo stuffed animals and recreate the touristy, S.F.-centric snaps ourselves. Could make for a good Instagram series.

Thirsty? Check Out S.F.'s Newest Wine Truck!
Just when we thought the mobile movement couldn't get any bigger — from auto boutiques to coffee shops on wheels — Healdsburg-based winery Simi is upping the ante with a snazzy little vino vehicle. That's right, a truck with the sole purpose of delivering Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon en masse. Um, it's about time!
Because we consider booze one of the most underrated sections of the food pyramid, this might just be the best thing to happen to our diets since the invention of the mimosa. But, even better than the classic combo of champagne and OJ is a full-bodied red matched with smooth jazz, dontcha think? And, luckily, the truck's final destination will be the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, where guests can enjoy soulful sounds while sipping Simi's tasty pours. Sounds like the perfect pairing! (Don't forget to look at our roadtrip guide to the area, while you're out there!)
And what would a wine tasting be without an assortment of finger foods to nosh on? Simi's executive chef will be serving up Sonoma-inspired small bites, so come hungry...and thirsty. Not that we needed to tell you that!
When: Friday, June 8, 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Healdsburg Jazz Festival at the Raven Performing Arts Theater, 115 North Street (at Center Street); 707-433-6335.

Yikes! The Zuck-Inspired 'Executive Hoodie' Takes Casual To The Next Level
Just when we thought we couldn’t cope with any more Mark Zuckerberg-related tidbits, this came along and stirred up our morning in a major way. Sure, we wouldn’t call the Facebook founder and CEO a Silicon Valley style icon. In fact, we’re pretty shocked he even swapped out his trademark zip-up for a suit on his wedding day. But, apparently, one S.F.-based brand begs to differ, and is actually turning to Zuck and his casual-fashion chops for inspiration. The peeps over at Betabrand are attempting to capitalize on the tech mogul’s threads (and, no doubt, recent headlines) and have designed a luxe hoodie of sorts. Dubbed the “executive hoodie” this pin-striped iteration ups the ante by boasting fine fabrics and two front pockets for an extra-fancy effect.
Perfect for peeps who want to take business casual to the next level? Well, for $148 it’s not exactly for the penny pincher. But, wait, what about all the female techies also after the suit-loungewear hybrid? Um, they can take comfort in the fact that there’s a women's version coming soon. Phew. Or ewww? How do you feel about this Facebook-inspired fashion item? Inquiring minds would like to know. (CNET)

Win Tix To The California Academy Of Sciences' Quake-Themed Fete!

Who said costumes were reserved solely for Halloween, or, in our case, Bay to Breakers? This Friday, throw on a top hat, turn back time, and revisit S.F.'s days of yore. You know, when the 1906 quake rocked our fair city, vaudeville shows were the entertainment of choice, and cocktails were rarely poured sans brandy (the latter may still ring true).
The California Academy of Sciences is kicking off its brand-spankin'-new earthquake-centric exhibit, aptly titled "Earthquake," which features images of S.F. before and after the monumental '06 shake-up. And to fete the anticipated show, it is hosting a 19th century-themed shindig. The five-hour affair will play host to an assortment of old-timey activities including cancan dancing and variety shows.
And while we're positive those performances are sure to knock our socks off, it's the 1906 earthquake simulator and live ostriches (according to sources, they have some connection to earthquakes) that have us counting down the minutes until Friday night. Well, it's time to dust off that old costume and kick up your heels (literally), because we're giving away a pair of tickets to the bash.
Score two tickets just by telling us what you'd wear to the big event in the comments. The winning package includes access to the party and exhibit, planetarium show, and two complimentary drinks. We’ll announce the winner Wednesday, so stay tuned!
When: Friday, May 25, 7 p.m. to midnight
Where: California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Drive, Golden Gate Park; 415-379-8000.
Price: $49 to $99; Buy tickets here.

Vintage Dior New Look Photos Will Go Live (Literally!) This Thursday
Before we get into the lowdown on the free-booze-infused, no-rsvp-needed, Dior-themed shindig on Thursday, here’s some brief but essential context for all you youngsters: The ultra-feminine silhouettes that embodied Dior's "New Look" collection (think voluminous skirts and nipped-in waists), pushed the proverbial envelope and helped wartime womenswear firmly move away from solemn, boxy cuts and modest shapes. Needless to say, in 1947, Christian Dior completely rocked the world. Now, 65 years later, S.F. shop The Factory and its neighbor, Code Salon, are collaborating on “Dior: A Life in Pictures,” a party to bring Bay Area peeps a taste of the historic collection through a living installation of the OG images.
What does that mean exactly? While we're not entirely sure, we know you can expect Dior’s iconic New Look photos on display and left largely intact, in addition to a bevy of real models mimicking the iconic poses of the ladies in said photos.
Ready to stroll down one of fashion’s most seminal forks on memory lane? Us, too. Plus, free treats, live music, and cocktails will be provided. All you need to do is show up in your Dior-inspired best.
When: Thursday, May 24, 7 p.m.
Where: Code Salon and The Factory, 370 4th Street (at Clara Street); 415-624-8340.
