On the Gosling Grid because: Okay, this isn't the world's best picture of the newest Hunger Games hunk, but despite Sam's blockbuster appeal, he appears to have an indie soul. Oh, and just like Ryan, he's got that dreamy look where he is imagining a better world for us both to live in, together, forever.

On the Gosling Grid because: Soulful Sturgess has funny facial hair, an adorable mane, and has played an aching romantic many a-time (One Day and Across The Universe), and like Mr. Gosling, they both have a passion for music. (As an aside, Ryan's band Dead Man's Bones is actually a really lovely listen...) Sturgess has a spate of indie films up in 2013, so, hey, he's gunning for Gosling.

Max Thieriot
On the Gosling Grid because: Playing the bad-boy in this year's Disconnect who seduces a much older woman, Max Thieriot is willing to take a couple of acting risks. He also has done one thing Ryan has not: Starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence. As long as his already-acclaimed role in Bates Motel doesn't keep him on the small screen, this rugged young guy will induce many a swoon.

Max Minghella
On the Gosling Grid because: Well, Max has already learned from the best, studying the art of Goslingery alongside the man himself in 2011's Ides of March. But the boyfriend of Kate Mara also has that depth and darkness a young Ryan has, as well. On top of that, he can slide between blockbusters and critical hits effortlessly.

On the Gosling Grid because: Hey, we noticed you guys like Donald Glover. That's great, because we adore Donald Glover. He's a pretty killer musician and one of the best personalities to watch off-screen, too. But can he act in a filmic capacity? We hope to find out soon.

On the Gosling Grid because: He might not be a household name yet, but just wait: He's got a hefty role in the next two Hobbit movies, and is playing the good guy in this year's Twilight and City Of Bones. Like Gosling, he also got his start on the small screen, as well, with the BBC series Being Human. Oh, and he's got an Irish accent. Just saying.

On the Gosling Grid because: Okay, look. Tom Hardy is already Tom Hardy. But he is on this list because everyone should be obsessed with Tom Hardy in the same way they are obsessed with Ryan Gosling. Hardy is just wonderful. He is hilarious, an incredibly talented screen personality, and devastatingly handsome. Too bad he seems to be in a wonderful, loving relationship, so he can't sweep us off our feet.

On the Gosling Grid because: Do you see how sensitive Eddie Redmayne is? He wants to know our feelings, and maybe sing us a song about them. Admittedly, he might not have the same type of charm of Mr. Gosling, but we expect to be dreaming dreams of Redmayne long after Les Misérables fever wears off.

Douglas Booth
On the Gosling Grid because: Who? You might ask. On this list, Booth is probably the most likely to actually capture our hearts in the same way as Ryan Gosling. He comes from a working-class background. He has a festival-attending, scruffy, music-loving side. He's already gotten his artsy, gender-bending project out of the way by playing Boy George in a made-for TV movie. And he is going to star alongside Hailee Steinfeld in the new Romeo and Juliet — which basically ensures heart-throb status.

While we know Michael Fassbender's got the whole "package" (and his on-screen intensity is at Christian Grey-levels), the actor is simply too old to play the 27-year-old character. Nuts, we say. Nuts.

WON'T — Robert Pattinson

Fifty Shades has its roots in Twilight fan fiction, and we are guessing R. Patz is trying to get as far away from that role as possible.

WON’T — Gabriel Macht

The Suits front man isn’t the first name that comes to mind for the role, but Macht certainly has the corporate thing down pat. We’re pretty willing to look past the fact that at 40, he may be a bit old to play the 27-year-old Grey, but the casting director may not.

WON’T — Michael Trevino

Trevino got his start as a Disney star (and he’s dating Glee actress Jenna Ushkowitz), but the 27-year-old Vampire Diaries actor endorses an underwear brand, so he’s probably okay with a little nudity. He’s some nice eye candy and all, but we just don’t see BDSM (or hit Blockbuster) in him.

WON’T — Hrithik Roshan

The 38-year-old Indian actor hasn’t seen much American playtime, but physically, he fits the bill for Christian Grey: Tall-dark-and-handsome. We’re just not sure he’ll make the switch from Bollywood.

WON’T — Channing Tatum

He’s been crowned People's Sexiest Man Alive, but after Magic Mike, he may not want to be typecast as an ultra-provocative, muscle-baring type (though that doesn’t sound half-bad). In the end, he’s just not as magnetic as we imagined Grey.

WISH — Tom Hardy

We’ve been dreaming of Tom Hardy long before he starred as the oh-so-handsome conman in Inception. But the English Star Trek actor just signed on to star as a special operative in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, so he may be a tad busy. That doesn’t mean our fingers aren’t crossed.

Okay, Max Irons might be a little young, but the son of Jeremy sure knows how to smolder. And, that might be enough for us.

WISH — Charlie Hunnam

He first caught our eye as Queer as Folk‘s Nathan Maloney back in 2000, but now he plays tattooed outlaw Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy. Hunnam may not look dark and stormy, but he certainly has the intimidation factor. And, it doesn’t hurt that he’s the closest to a 20-something Brad Pitt we’ll ever get.

WISH — Chace Crawford

As far as script-reading speculation goes, the Gossip Girl actor was recently added to the list of Christian Grey hopefuls, and we can totally imagine Chace channeling his wealthy Upper West-Side character Nate Archibald for the role. Plus, those blue eyes! But, is he tough enough?

After Trishna, this rugged actor stole our hearts and our breath. Sure, Christian isn't supposed to be British/Pakistani (and it might turn into another Rue-like scandal), but a left-field curveball might be exactly what this franchise needs.

WISH — Johannes Huebl

We doubt anyone else has thrown his name in the ring, but the German model (and Olivia Palermo’s better half) is painfully beautiful. As far as his acting resume goes, though, he’s dabbled with a…. YouTube video. Not exactly extensive, but he plays the sex object of a few desperate Upper East Side moms. We could maybe see him dominate the screen.

WISH — Ian Somerhalder

Ian is exactly what we imagine Christian Grey to be: slightly mysterious, gorgeous, and with piercing eyes and chiseled good looks. But, he doesn't have the right kind of pull: He isn't indie enough to be a shocker or mainstream enough to have blockbuster power. Bummer.

He's so smug. He's so handsome. And he's got the acting chops. (See: The Social Network.) We just worry that Hollywood execs won't see him as anything but the Brothers Winklevoss.
