Our favorite runway moments and trends from New York Fashion Week.
1. The Hooded Dress — We flat-out adore hoods with just about anything, but adding them on to Hollywood gowns and short shifts yielded a glamorous twist that was unexpected and fun. Derek Lam (below left), Matthew Williamson (below right)

2. Winter Sheers — Gauzy overlays and breezy, diaphanous panels struck a cool chord layered over prints and darker shades of black. PHI (below left), Zero Maria Cornejo (below right)

3. The Jumpsuit… Again — We've been tracking the one-piece comeback since they disappeared the first time, and winter's delivery found them getting even more rich and refined (minus the retro edge) than spring's. Bruce (below left), Ruffian (below right)

4. Climate Change — The forecast called for dense knits, long shapes, and winter shades, but these pale, lightweight sheaths were primed for a warm front. BCBG (below left), Vena Cava (below right)
5. Tiers and Lapels — We loved how an added cape-like tier or extra shoulder-shaping lapel brought a stronger effect to the seasons's coats and jackets. Derek Lam (below left), Yigal Azrouel (below right)

6. Prism Effects — The geometry lesson worked with diamond-cut shapes playing up the necklines and waistlines of simple silky sleeveless dresses. Proenza Schouler (below left), Donna Karan (below middle), Jeremy Laing (below right)

7. Color Forms — Whether it was varied shades of periwinkle or layered nuances of stormy blue, partnering tones of the same color agreed with the quieter, more subdued mood and look of the season. Marc Jacobs (below left), Bruce (below right)

8. Funnel-Necks — From coats and jackets to military style dresses, sharp, stand-away funnel-neck collars led the charge for fall/winter's fresh necklines. Yigal Azrouel (below left), Buckler (below right)

9. The Big Coat — We've been seeing (and loving) men's overcoats for a few seasons now, but this winter we found the proportion feeling just right with more delicate shoulders and a luxe, less grungy disposition. 3.1 Phillip Lim (below left), Luella Bartley (below right)

10. Bikes and Babes — Either dipped in sequins or fashioned in a tough batgirl style, our favorite black bottoms of the moment had the perfect measure of attitude and elegance. Alexander Wang (below left), DKNY (below right)

11. Caped Dresses — Think playful and super confident (not superhero) when sizing up the season's batch of caped frocks. Zero Maria Cornejo (below left), Max Azria (below middle), Erin Fetherston (below right)

12. Interior Motive — The fall/winter prints that caught our eye offered a subtle nod to Charles and Ray Eames along with delicate swipes at other retro-inspired upholstery fabrics. Philosophy (below left), Zero Maria Cornejo (below right)
