When designer Jill Platner opened her jewelry store on Crosby Street in 2000, her only neighbors were a charity furniture shop, a cabbie curry stand, and some dumpsters. Anyone who has meandered recently down this stretch between Houston and Prince streets knows the neighborhood has since exploded with all manner of chic boutiques, but Platner’s store remains an original both in spirit and offering.

The soaring walls are less whitebox-gallery than Mission church, and the organic-inspired, handcrafted silver and gold jewelry is displayed on the walls and in modest wooden cases. The friendly salespeople make choosing your own bracelet, necklace, belt-buckle, or earrings an absolute treat.
