In a sea of black, our girl Laura still managed to stand out from the crowd. The MTV presenter rocked this Alexandre Vaulthier Couture jumpsuit with Grecian inspired accessories, a slick of red lips, and a “you looking at me?” attitude. We like. A lot.

Hayley Atwell
Rising Brit star Hayley Atwell appeared in her element in this monochrome, structured gown. We particularly liked the fresh make up and unfussy hairdo to go with it. It made what could have been quite a formal look feel less so.

Marion Cottilard
We felt for Marion, we really did. She showed her true feelings as she walked down the very wet red carpet, grimacing as particularly violent gusts of wind blew slushy streams of rain her way. Still she was a vision in her sunshine yellow Dior gown. The sheer paneling gave the elegant column dress a hint of drama that complemented the inclement weather perfectly. Although, it's possible Marion might disagree.

Amy Adams
Amy went old school with a black lace Elie Saab gown that wouldn’t have been out of place in Ava Gardner’s wardrobe. Oh and a pair of very, very delicate Faberge earrings that played off the titian tones of her hair. Which, by the way, was lovely. Just lovely. And the dangerously high slit to her dress brought it all right back to the 21st century. We can’t wait to see what she wears at the Oscars.

Helen Mirren
You already know how much we love her candyfloss hair but Helen Mirren's Nicholas Oakwell couture dress was pretty wonderful, too. The pale-gray tones of the chiffon gown were the perfect foil to the sweetie-shop pink — and it was a real pleasure to see a woman on the red carpet having fun with her look. No left-arm-at-right angle poses for this Dame, just a playful twirl for the cameras. Pure class.

We think that Jessica Chastain might be our new red-carpet crush. She never puts a foot wrong. The cobalt blue and origami-like pleats of this Roland Mouret dress enhance her alabaster-like skin and auburn hair to perfection. Breathtakingly lovely.

Lily James
This Downton Abbey star (she plays temptress Lady Rose MacClare, in case you aren't among the obsessed) enhanced her English Rose status with a flowing, black-lace gown. The high neck and puff sleeves kept it demure while the champagne-coloured satin underneath made it anything but. One to watch.

Everybody knows that SJP wears the trousers when it comes to red-carpet dressing. And this is exactly what she did on Sunday, wearing an Elie Saab skin-fit jumpsuit that played to all her best assets. Its razor-sharp tailoring and unique texture combinations (velvet and silk — we like) were the epitome of understated elegance. What a pro.

Congratulations to Annie Hathaway, winner of the Best Supporting Actress award and wearer one of our favourite looks of the night. Rumours proved unfounded that the Les Mis actress would wear Lanvin, as she confidently walked the red carpet in Burberry. Plus, her elfin crop is really growing on us, and although studs have been a embellishment of choice for seasons now we liked how these add-ons gave the plain black column an edge.

Sometimes it’s tough to be an award-winning actress. Pneumonia? Pah, it’s awards season, slip on your Dior gown and hit that red carpet, anyway! Which is exactly what Jennifer Lawrence did in an exquisite chiffon gown, this weekend. It’s only two weeks since she battled her illness and while she did wear a coat for most of the red carpet, she did manage to raise a smile. What a trooper.

As much as we love her, Beyoncé can be hit or miss when it comes to red-carpet style. But, we're definitely on board with her look last night! A two-tone jumpsuit with split shoulders sounds dangerous on paper, but the chic tailoring, high-waisted cut, and sleek ponytail made this look work in a big way.

Kimbra
Okay, hear us out: Kimbra's whimsical Jaime Lee confection was a risk, not just for Grammy censors, but for the more strict fashion police, too. But Kimbra played on her quirky-pixie aesthetic and kept things simple and let the embellished gown speak for itself. We think the dreamy dress paid off, and we love when our friends Down Under (yes, she's a Kiwi and Lee's Aussie, but they are good pals) remind us what a powerhouse Oceania can be.

Now, before you get all upset with us, let's talk this through. Yes, Florence Welch is dressed like a sparkly green absinthe-fairy-cum-dinosaur in Givenchy couture and Sorellina jewelry. But this is the Grammys! Everyone seems to have some vague idea that this carpet should be more edgy than most, but too often, that manifests itself in an excess of skin and a dearth of style. Flo's vampy, futuristic take on an Irish lass has — like it or not — a real fashion precedent to back it up. And we find that entirely inspiring.

Wait, who is this lovely diva wearing a shorter Valentino confection? It cannot possibly be, can it? But, she always wears black, doesn't she? And yet, here she is, in what appears to be a red, voluminous, embroidered skirt with matchy-matchy floral pumps, defying all expectations. And we like it. (P.S. We caught your new "A" tattoo, Adele. Is that for Angelo?)

We have to admit, we were sort of hoping to see one of the new YSL suits on Janelle Monae. Though a Slimane creation seems practically made for her, the singer went for a slightly more retro option with an embroidered Moschino jacket and a Ralph Lauren topper. Hey, if we looked this good in a tux, we'd wear one 24/7, too!

Allison Williams
Heavy metal doesn't often get much screen time at the Grammys, but Allison Williams' Kaufman Franco dress was like armor for the fashion set. The textured gown has an almost hieroglyphic look to it, with paneling that only highlights her lovely curves. The Girls star arrived on Katy Perry's arm, and maybe because of that, kept the rest of her look low-key with simple, fresh makeup and hair.

Alexa Chung
In a sea of cut-outs, stretch fabrics, and sensationally placed peek-a-boo details, our Fuse hostess felt refreshingly charming. Along with fellow countrywoman Adele, Alexa chose a Valentino gown and minimal (maybe none?) accessories. In fact, all we spied were Chanel clip-on earrings, which Lex (that's what we call her when we are texting) is wearing as barrettes.

Rihanna
Like Cher Horowitz before her, Rihanna rocked the red carpet in a custom Alaïa gown. She was one of two best-dressed ladies to surprise us with an unexpected rouge choice (the other was Adele). Yet, the real treat was seeing the Bajan singer in the most mature, glamorous attire we've seen on her in quite some time, proving that while she is the queen of on-the-street style, she can also stun in an airy floor-skimmer, too. No one will be saying, "It's an a-what-a?" to RiRi.

Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift has made quite a point of sweeping, low-cut, white gowns of late — to the point that if she gets married anytime soon, we're gonna need some extra signage to make it quite clear we're not look at just any old red carpet. But, we can't really blame her, as she continues to look stunning time after time. Her flowing J. Mendel getup last night was just the right amount of strappy, sequined, goddess-y goodness.

Karlie Kloss
Karlie, who worked both sides of the carpet, thanks to her duties as a reporter for House of Style, definitely got the memo about cutouts. She was one of the few to show some leg, and her sleek, bright-blue Michael Kors dress was perfectly on-point for a night when over-the-top is standard fare.

Well, 12 hours later, we're still standing in ovation for both the bare-faced babe and Sienna Miller's stylist, Cher Coulter, for giving us a dose of funky-chic in the form of Erdem separates. Adding to our uncharted-territory elation, she rocked three Van Cleef & Arpels earrings on one side, while going au natural on the other. The appliqué florals, white-lace base, and risk-taking attitude are exactly why she was The Girl of the evening, despite being shafted of the actual trophy.

Two words: aqua caliente! There was nothing zero or dark about Jessica Chastain's mermaid-esque Calvin Klein creation. The best actress winner mentioned to E! that it reminded her of a "waterfall," and quite frankly, we'd like to be doused in it!

While we saw enough beige at the Beverly Hilton last night to just say "blah-blah-blah" to the whole parade, Kerry Washington showed Tinseltown how it's DONE in a sheer, breathtakingly bejeweled Miu Miu. The Django Unchained star topped off her nude number with a vintage Movado watch from the vault (always ooh la la-worthy when you hear that!), and the diamonds were so symbiotic with the dress that you would have thought they came as a set.

Isn't it thrilling to finally see our beloved Mary in a modern-day frock? Michelle Dockery donned an Alexandre Vauthier gilt-and-white, cap-sleeved, absolute stunner, and she sweeps our sleek awards. We also adore the unexpected peeks of color in her burgundy Loubies and the bold, emerald Bulgari gems.

Julianna Margulies was 100% badass in her plunging, backless, and beaded Pucci gown. Whew, girlfriend, way to bring it! We weren't sure she could outdo last year's Giambattista floral, floor-sweeping winner, but she's now proven that her red-carpet chops are steadfast.

Only hot-bodied Kate Hudson would say she opted for "comfort" in a black, body-clinging Alexander McQueen! Apparently, her first choice was too heavy for her breezy-boho mantra of ~~the eve~~ life, and we're glad she opted for classic elegance and on-point statuesque-chic.

The best actress nominee's iCal is working overtime this awards season. And, what better way to celebrate all of Naomi Watts's upcoming red-carpet moments than with a haute burgundy frock? Nominated for her role in The Impossible, Watts paired the long-sleeved Zac Posen dress (complete with pleated train!) with matching Lorraine Schwartz drop earrings. Of course, having Liev Schreiber on your arm doesn't hurt either.

What we'd give to be cc'ed on the email convo between Julianne Moore and designer Tom Ford. According to the best actress winner, she sent TF a note, requesting a custom gown. The result? A floor-length, black-and-white stunner that blew all of the 20-somethings on the carpet out of the water. And, to further the fact that age ain't nothing but a number (she's 52 years old, people!), the mama of two sported a super-sassy snake bracelet and chandelier earrings from Bulgari. Game changer, indeed!

We've heard every critique in the book about the Elementary actress' Carolina Herrera gown (drape and wallpaper-inspired included). But, no matter where you stand on the decor debate, one thing's for certain: We'd love to take this sucker home with us. Like night and day, this dress is the complete opposite of Lucy Liu's skin-tight sequined frock from the Emmys. We love ourselves a fashion risk, and opting for a theatrical floral number certainly paid off.

Hey girl, hey! Although season two of Lena Dunham's Golden Globe-winning HBO show premiered during the actual awards, Dunham arrived at the red carpet looking nothing short of chic. Clad in the most decadent plum-purple, we loved the details of Zac Posen's décolletage-baring number. Her stylist, Brad Goreski, must've known that the cinched waist would hug her curves in all the right places and that the off-the-shoulder neckline was prime tattoo-exposing material. If there was ever a dress that could define Dunham, this is it!

Claire Danes

This woman looks out-of-control-amazing less than a month after having her son, and she put the rest of the A-listers to shame with her classic va-va-voom blowout — created by celebrity hairstylist Peter Butler using a curling iron and some John Frieda hairspray, actually — and super-smoky eyes. Seriously, we haven't seen such a smoldering beauty look in like...ever. Hot mama, indeed.

Kerry has a knack for choosing ladylike, pretty beauty looks, but she truly turned it out at the Globes with an unexpectedly edgy getup, from her sleek, straight hair to her smoky eyes. To get her sleek look, stylist Marcus Francis used John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight Semi-Permanent Styling Spray before blow-drying her hair and flat ironing in sections. That amazing purple shadow? It's Lancôme Color Design Infinite 24H Eye Shadow in Evermore Lilac. In a sea of fluffy dresses and glamazon locks, Kerry is that edgy girl that we just want to be.

Julianne Hough

We'll confess: On first glance, we weren't entirely sure about Julianne's pompadour-esque 'do. But once we saw the side view (thanks, E!), we were floored. We tend to get the heebie-jeebies from overly saccharine red-carpet getups, so we're grateful to Ms. Hough for mixing it up. Her badass hair and smoky eyes, coupled with her ethereal Monique Lhuillier gown, made for a distinctly Black Swan look. We think she absolutely killed it.

Lucy Liu

We love Lucy. While her dress may be slightly controversial (we personally landed that Carolina Herrera masterpiece firmly on our Best Dressed List), her insanely gorgeous twisted-and-woven braid is a total and definite win. Created by Wella celebrity stylist Andy LeCompte, this "perfect imprefection" braid helps create a stunning counterbalance to that lush, Marie-Antoinette-inspired dress. Heck, we might go as far as to say it's one of the best braids ever executed on a red carpet. Too much? Nah, we say she can have it, and you can quote us on that.

Sienna Miller

After having a beautiful baby with her fiancé, one of our favorite Brits made a triumphant return to the red carpet looking (is it possible?) even more glowy and amazing than before. Giuliana Rancic called her out on the carpet for wearing almost no makeup — but we heard that she used Chanel Vitalumière foundation and St. Tropez Rose Skin Illuminator to further bring out her post-baby beauty. Sporting a fresh face and a minimal, slicked-back hairstyle, Sienna looked stunning in the simplest way possible, and we love her for it.

If we had to pick one comedienne to receive the Lifetime Achievement On The Red Carpet award, the great Julia Louis-Dreyfus would decidedly be on the short list. Seriously, this woman is a comedy legend, and she consistently proves that humor and beauty are natural complements. We're always impressed by Julia's ability to look like her gorgeous self on the red carpet, rather than (ahem) rending her face motionless with injectables and whatnot.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie has a near-superhuman ability to shake up a red carpet, and we were blown away by her look at the Globes. At first glance, she's looking all classic Old Hollywood (a major theme at the awards), but once she blinks? Blam! Crazy-awesome, dress-matching periwinkle eyeshadow, courtesy of Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Eye Shadow Single in Sky, pressed in a thick layer over the lids for maximum impact. Yes, we say, yes.

Marion Cotillard

Marion always looks simply incredible, but we did a major double-take when the French beauty debuted an entirely new hairstyle on the carpet. Not many women can pull off super-straight, center-parted, tucked-behind-the-ear hair, but Marion rocked it in a way that somehow read modern and natural alongside her cat-eye. (Makeup artist Christophe Danchaud used a mix of Tarte Skinny SmolderEyes Amazonian Clay Eyeliners in Amazonite Blue and Slate.) Vraiment sleek and chic, non?

Amanda Seyfried

Those eyes, those lips, that hair, that bosom! Amanda lucked out in the gorgeous-genes department, so we loved that she went completely minimal in every way, allowing her natural beauty to shine through. The only slightly out-there touch? Her full-on blush-glittered eyelids that added a glam factor to her simple look. We always knew Amanda sparkled, but...wow.

Michelle Dockery

We've never seen Michelle Dockery rock a red carpet like this. We love how she coupled her high-necked Alexandre Vauthier gown with a lovely wavy bob (hitting the '20s trend that will be huge this spring!) and sultry-yet-pretty makeup that highlights her gorgeous features. To create the perfect hair look, celebrity stylist Mara Roszak used Kérastase Resistance Spray Volumactive before rough-drying, setting the front of her 'do in finger waves, and curling the rest of the hair in sections. Lady Mary, you have officially won our hearts.
