Rad or Bad? Socks with Sandals Brings Back The 9-Year-Old In Us

This past weekend, trend setter Chloë Sevigny, always one step ahead of the fashion curve, was seen at Coachella wearing socks with sandals, setting off a minor ripple of the do-you-hate-it-or-love-it kind. Now we'll be the first to admit that the nine-year-old in us loved the look. In our elementary school days, the sandals were marked by a particularly offensive Velcro-strap while the socks were usually brightly-hued and ankle-length. Needless to say, it was as nightmarish as an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark. But in a new twist 'n take on the trend, the sock with sandal specter has been seen in the pages of Teen Vogue looking oddly adorable paired with some A.P.C strappy heels. On one hand, the pairing has warmth on its side, and there's definitely something appealing about being able to break in our pair of Pierre Hardy for Gap platforms before it's seasonally appropriate to bear toes. But on the other, we fear things going horribly wrong and being mistaken for a Teva-loving wilderness guide. Certainly navigating these murky waters demands treading carefully. So, could socks with sandals be cute when done right? Or should this ghastly Midnight Society meeting be called to an end?
