The Six New Designers to Watch Now

As you might imagine, there is never a shortage of press releases and freshly printed lookbooks hanging around these parts. But the sad truth is, it takes a bit more than some pretty pictures to catch our attention—and keep it. But these six designers all share one thing: They have a noteworthy point of view, and they've definitely got us excited about what's to come. Whether it's Katie Gallagher's daring urbanite or Timo Weiland's Edwardian bookworm, these six collections have all scored a top spot on our Hot list.

Carven

We've been in love with Carven's menswear line ever since its revival three seasons ago in Paris. So, of course we were over the moon when we spotted a mention in WWD that this season they would be producing a womenswear line with the designer Guillaume Henry at the helm. Henry, a self-proclaimed modern romantic, whose worked at cool French label Paul Ka and at a little design house called Givenchy, says the new line will be "fresh and elegant," just like the Carven girl. Katie Gallagher

Born between a farm and a forest in the U.S. and a fan of wearing her cat, Thomas, on her head as a child, it's no wonder Katie Gallagher is the new quirky cool darling of the fashion world. Her spring/summer 2009 collection "Shroud" is inspired by drapery and, yes, the shroud, and won the admiration of bloggers and trend forecasters alike, but with her latest collection, the young designer has sky-rocketed from indie darling to a bona fide fashion force. Her spring/summer 2010 collection is darkly futuristic, sleek and, as ever, unique. Kind of like the designer herself.

Saloni Lodha

Saloni Lodha is easy to envy. She's strikingly beautiful, well-traveled, a close pal to a gaggle of celebs, and most enviable, she's the brains behind her own eponymous line. While the Indian Saloni has been showing at London Fashion Week for two years now, the fashion world has only recently fallen head over heels for the designer, particularly after Emma Watson wore her now famed Alexia dress on the red carpet. And after rave reviews of her first showing in New York this past September, the designer's buzz rating continues to rise.
