It’s pretty obvious that San Franciscans' love for all things local runs really deep. From handmade goods to tasty grub, anything that blends the Bay Area's fascination with sustainable and stylish commerce is a hit. So, naturally, when we heard that Pop Up Foods found a way to fuse online shopping, fresh produce, and pop-up shops together into a very refreshing, eco-friendly event — we were all ears.
Up to two weeks before the epicurean affair, keen costumers can sign on to Pop Up Foods and buy small-batch treats such as Sunnyside Organics’ herb boxes or sinful sweets by Sixth Course (think of it as an upgraded CSA of sorts). After paying for your
boatloads reasonable amount of yums, you have to wait until the event to pick up your order and meet the men and women behind what you’re bringing home. Hey, we’re willing to hold out if it means our food doesn’t cross the continent to get to our table.
The next salivating soirée is this weekend in Oakland, so you’ve still got some time to pack that virtual shopping cart to the brim. We suggest buying early and buying a lot, because we don’t know when or where you’ll be able to load up on these goodies again. Suspenseful, no? Plus, 5% of the profits are invested into community-based projects, meaning whether you use ‘em to picnic, grill, or just get your fill, you’re helping out a good cause.
