Someone recently asked us, "Should I take a pregnancy test if I only had my period for two days?"

While just two days of bleeding is definitely on the short side for a period, it’s pretty normal for the length and heaviness of your period to be different from time to time.

If it’ll give you peace of mind, there’s no harm in taking a home pregnancy test. Bleeding during pregnancy is rather uncommon, so what you had was probably just a light, short period. But if you’ve had unprotected sex since your last period, and the bleeding was very light and different from your normal period, taking a pregnancy test is definitely a good idea.

If you’re using hormonal birth control (like the pill, patch, ring, shot, implant, or hormonal IUDs) it’s common to have low-key periods like that — many people love hormonal birth control for that reason. And if you’re using it correctly, it’s super unlikely that you’re pregnant. If it'll keep your worrying at a minimum and put you at peace, though, taking a test may be a good idea.
