For those trying to sculpt their own waves at home, Arrojo says to step away from the hot rollers and curling iron — there's a better way. He recommends washing your hair before you go to bed and applying a styling creme from roots to ends. Braid your hair where you want those beach waves to be, then go to bed.
When you wake up in the morning, undo the braids and lightly (not too much; you don't want the waves to lose their shape) brush out your hair until the strands takes the shape of defined waves. Add in that tousled texture by spraying some dry shampoo or sea salt spray into hair, then shake it out with your fingers.
