If you’re looking to book a quick weekend trip to escape the fog, we suggest you consider Monterey in a big way. If only to visit new eatery Restaurant 1833. Named after the year the historical venue was born, the 1833 site has formerly been an apothecary and a newspaper press before being revamped into the current lush, luxe resto owned by the dudes behind the Pebble Beach Food & Wine Festival. The menu created by chef Levi Mezick includes crispy sea bass, wild mushroom and prosciutto pizza, English pea ravioli, and the like. And guests can indulge in a cocktail or two while lounging in the two-story spot that includes turn-of-the-century details and an outdoor patio with four fire pits.
