These High School Sweethearts Opted To Make Their Wedding A Tea Ceremony

By Quyen

Mike and I are high school sweethearts. Over 10 years ago, when he was a senior and I was a junior, we met in Math Analytics class. He apparently noticed me and found out my name by checking out the sign-in sheet. Shortly after that, we went on our first date and were pretty much inseparable. We did the long-distance thing for five years, and though it was hard only spending weekends together, it ultimately strengthened our relationship.

Since we come from two very different cultural backgrounds, we decided to have a Vietnamese tea ceremony for our wedding, which served as a bridge between our two families. We love simplicity and saw our wedding as a relaxed, less-traditional celebration, with good food, family, friends, and of course, great music. The dishes we served were inspired by meals Mike and I have shared over the years, and we served ice cream instead of a cake. In essence, we wanted the day to feel like a festive home gathering, peppered with details that make us "us."
