Saunders Goes Low, Aims High
Seems we've arrived at a time when rising designers can cash in at both ends of the balance beam. Case in point, Jonathan Saunders, the critical darling of London Fashion Week, just announced he'll be whipping up discount duds for Target's GO International collection, available in October. Nice low. As for the high—Massimo and Alberta Ferretti, sibling sovereigns of the massive, posh Aeffe Group (parent company of Moschino, Philosophy, Basso & Brooke, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Velmar, and Authier, to name a few) have just dismissed Rifat Ozbek, designer of their Pollini accessories line. The Ferrettis have drafted Saunders and teamed him up with the imminently cheeky footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood. So, what does this paring of Italian luxury design and East-End showmanship hold for Pollini? Silver-dipped faux tiger print purses? Naff schoolgirl bangles of pure gold?
