If Olympic fever hasn't set in yet, this week's stacked schedule of competitions should rile you up more than anything. From unbelievable swimming showdowns to seeing how this past weekend's gymnastics drama will actually unfold, history is on the verge of being made ... big-time.
With NBC streaming Olympic coverage online, you can sneak a peek at weight lifting, basketball, synchronized diving, and every other sport you're down with from the comfort of your desk, table, or cubicle. Get the games on your computer by hooking it up here, and prepare for the world's biggest moments to scroll right across your computer screen.
Wondering what exactly should you schedule your afternoon meetings around? Look no further than our weeklong guide to all things Olympic. (Note: This times are based on eastern daylight time, or EDT.)
Tuesday, July 31
10 a.m.: In case you didn't get to watch this over the weekend, the ladies of synchronized diving take an already challenging sport and, well, decide to do it together in perfect unison. So cool, so beautiful to watch, and so much better than staring at that work presentation on your computer that just won't finish itself.
11:30 a.m.: Only 48 hours after Jordyn Wieber lost the chance of getting a medal of her own in the all-around individual competition, she returns with the Fab Five for team finals, and you can bet it'll be with a vengeance. Watch as Team USA battles nerves and top billing to clinch the gold they've been slated to win for months.
2:30 p.m.: We know, swimming seems to be all anyone talks about these days, but this afternoon has one race you won't want to miss — the 4x200m freestyle relay. Over the weekend, Phelps, Lochte, and the rest of the team got silver for the 4x100m, and this will be their chance to redeem themselves for gold.
Wednesday, August 1
11:30 a.m.: The only thing more exciting than seeing super-strong gents at the men's all-around final throw themselves around gymnastics equipment all day long, is the stream NBC set up for it. Now, in the upmost of technological advances, you can choose between specific feeds for each apparatus. Pommel horse, all day long! Vaults on repeat! Yeah, we're not getting any work done today.
2 p.m.: After a day full of gymnastics, tune in to the 77 kg division of men's weight lifting, which culminates in a medal ceremony. Whatever you do, just turn your speakers down — nothing like the sounds of the world's heaviest weight lifters to terrify a completely silent office.
2:30 p.m.: We assume by today everyone in your office will be glued to the screen for swimming, so just give in and see how America's newest sweetheart Missy Franklin does on her two races this afternoon, the 200m freestyle and the 4x200m freestyle relay.
Thursday, August 2
11:30 a.m.: Want to know how big of a disappointment it is that reigning world champion Jordyn Wieber didn't make the all-around cut? She's the thumbnail image for the event on NBC's schedule (major womp womp). With some of the highest qualifying scores in the game, Aly Raisman's surprise contention could give her the ammo to win big, while Gabby Douglas — between her stunning work on uneven bars and beam — will do her best to live up to the hype.
1 p.m.: Fencing! Besides the queen and those crazy getups worn by the folks participating in dressage, there are a few things at the games that strike us as decidedly British. Watch as one of the worldwide women's teams takes home the gold in these foil medal matches.
Friday, August 3
9 a.m.: All that flipping and turning may make you uneasy after a rowdy Thursday night out, but men's trampoline back-to-back qualifying and final rounds are too crazy to miss out on.
10:30 a.m.: Watch as weight-lifting newcomer and media darling Holley Mangold goes for the gold (and hopefully nabs it!) in the women's 75kg weight-lifting competition.
12 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.: Beach volleyball! The preliminary rounds that have been going on all week have been dwindling the number of potential medal contenders, and the real neck-and-neck competition begins today.
2 p.m.: And, track & field begins! Get a head start on the weekend's shot put, heptathlon, and 10,000m coverage and your inevitable newfound interest in running laps.
2:30 p.m.: Although only a fortune teller and overexcited swimming commentators could tell us what to expect by the end of the week, another day of competitions involving Missy Franklin is bound to be, in one way or another, one for the record books.
