Slow and Steady specs that are sure to move fast. By Loryn Hatch

slowsteady_objectlesson.jpgFor the past five years, Mary Ping's Slow and Steady Wins the Race line has taken a deconstructionist approach to fashion, examining the function and futility of an industry that has more or less crossed into excess. Describing the avant-garde side project as a "logical dissection of fashion," Ping, who's best known for her city-smart womenswear, has amassed a numbered list of counter-responses to everyday staples like the basic white T-shirt and the ubiquitous, if not over-played designer handbag.

In celebration of five years of abstract exploration (which, by the way, has garnered quite the cult following), SSWTR has brought its entire oeuvre of limited-edition pieces to the LES's Sol Moscot Optical Shop. Starting September 8 and going on until the 13th, the store will be selling its reservoir of wares for $100 a pop. Notable items include the Nº 16 sunglasses, a six-piece collection of stripped down styles and colors that channel a Weird Science intellect but still manage to score screen star glamour. Available in red, black, white, clear, gray, and tortoise, the frames play with circles, squares, and clever hinging and may be your best transition into the world of conceptual fashion, albeit one that's altogether wearable.

The Slow and Steady Pop Up Store, September 8 to 13, will be at Sol Moscot Eyewear, 118 Orchard Street (at Delancey), from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Remember these? Up close the finish is sort of funky (just like plastic spaghetti) but illuminated from the interior, these globes are totally gorgeous. —CB
