Zero Maria Cornejo makes feeling blue a happy occasion. By Loryn Hatch

zerodress_royalflush.jpgFirst there was the LBD (that's Little Black Dress for all you beginners). Then the Red Dress…and white, one, too. But thanks to Zero Maria Cornejo, we're currently pining for something new and something blue. Truth be told, we've been feeling pretty blue since last spring when the first buds of azure and turquoise started springing up on runways and streets worldwide. Unlike black or maybe even scarlet, blue really is not for everyone. But leave it to Zero Maria Cornejo to think up the most uncomplicated yet inspired rendition of the Blue period—with the G/G in blazing cobalt blue silk charmeuse.

Stepping out with strong architectural cuts, graphics, and shapes, the Chilean designer built a summer collection that reaches across the full range of possibilities, but the G/G seems to pinpoint what we love most about summer: it's simple yet potent and full of surprises. First, there's the brilliant design: A sleeveless, straight, knee-length cut brought together by wide, grosgrain straps that plunge to the center, adding the perfect balance of structure and sex appeal to this classic shape. Cornejo fashioned this extra-special piece in black and gray, too. But just about anyone can wear black and gray. Cobalt blue says so much more about the summer ahead. Simple, maybe. Full of surprises…most definitely.

The G/G Dress ($472) is available at Zero Maria Cornejo, 225 Mott Street (between Prince and Spring streets), 212-925-3849 and online at www.zeromariacornejo.com
