Rogues Gallery gives fall footwear the boot. By Micki Bloom
Naysayers often fault menswear for its lack of evolution—especially when it comes to shoe styles—but is it really so necessary to buck tradition simply in the name of change? Our latest obsession, the Rogues Gallery Eyelet boot, proves that a hardcore classic can be re-imagined without any unnecessary re-inventions.
Here, the basic silhouette remains the same, but subtle details reveal a fall boot that's freshly innovative without feeling over the top. Closer inspection reveals a host of surprises—a Peter Pan-like trim around the ankle, exposed, decorative stitching, and a contrasting, fully connected tongue that give the shoe a part boot, part slip on feel. Perfectly suited for almost any stomping ground, the unfinished lace plays off the refined design of the shoe, rendering it neither too rugged nor too refined.
As if that wasn't enough, this boot can even increase flexibility—with the impossibly soft and supple leather, you may not be able to resist the urge to bend down and touch your toes, regardless of the weather outside.
Rogues Gallery 8 Eyelet Boot, about $380, available in New York at Stuart & Wright, 85 Lafayette Street, Brooklyn; 718-797-0011, in Chicago at Jake, 3740 N. Southport Avenue; 773-929-5253, and in Los Angeles at Douglas Fir, 8311 W 3rd Street, 323-651-5445.
