There Is Now Nude Lingerie For Every Skin Tone

Nude lingerie is the most basic item in everyone's wardrobe. Or, at least it should be. Despite being a presumed given in a woman's closet, it can be a struggle to find yourself represented in the lingerie section when the standard for "nude" tends to fall on the lighter end of the spectrum. What about the rest of the female population? Nubian Skin saw this huge gap, and said, "Enough."
"My nude isn’t the nude I see in shops," writes the brand's founder, who remains anonymous but blogs frequently about how Nubian Skin began and what it hopes to achieve. The lack of diversity she describes isn't unique to hosiery. She likens it to that of the beauty industry, where "it took Eunice W. Johnson to create Fashion Fair Cosmetics in 1973 for black women to really have an adequate choice in finding makeup colors to suit them."
While both industries still have a ways to go in terms of representing every woman, Nubian Skin uses popular foundations by brands like Bobbi Brown, Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint, and Nars as reference points for their own hues. They recommend the Cinnamon for someone who wears Bobbi Brown Warm Walnut, and Berry for a Laura Mercier Espresso.
Ultimately, Nubian Skin hopes to change both an industry and a mindset: "It’s an uphill battle, but every revolution starts somewhere." Hopefully, when Nubian Skin's e-shop opens in October, it will be just the first step in a larger movement. If Christian Louboutin is in, why not everyone else?
Ahead, check out some behind-the-scenes shots from Nubian Skin's photoshoot.
