The '70s revival is major this season, so, of course we're loving this easy-breezy look Club Monaco Public Relations coordinator Tansu Akman-Duffy rocked en route to work. Proving that palazzo pants can be sophisticated and fun, she completed her perfect summer weekday outfit by pairing the trend with some classic pieces to keep the look office-appropriate. We're all about a pop of bright color (especially with New York's heinous gray rain of late), and, with cubicles so chilly, we're majorly into this pretty publicist's lightweight layering. A calm, mimosa-swilling brunch may seem like the perfect weekend activity to nurse Friday's hangover while you and your friends share a few laughs over the previous night's debauchery. But—au contrair!—Lavo, a notable celeb-spotting nightclub, hosts a champagne brunch that is anything but sobering. From noon to 6 p.m., you can dine on polenta pancakes, almond-crusted french toast, or an extensive raw bar, while sipping on "remedies" from the cocktail menu. Expect the unexpected with our latest dining must-try, "Beauty & Essex," on the LES. With unusual takes on comfort food, classic cocktails and vintage decor, this is not just a restaurant, it's an entire dining experience. The brand new eatery features a pawn shop entrance filled with all kinds of old-school tchotchkes and decor for a L'Esquina like entrance (who doesn't like sneaking through the kitchen?). The main dining room (one of four in total) is designed to resemble the inside of a vintage jewelry box and features a pearl chandelier that will keep you looking up at the ceiling when you aren't too busy devouring your dinner.
Chef Chris Santos, whom you might recognize as a celebrity guest judge of The Food Network hit series "Chopped," offers a unique menu in traditional family style. For the daring in the bunch, we urge you to try to Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Dumplings or "Jewels of Toast," the restaurant's daily selection of crostini's with toppings like Roasted Bone Marrow. Otherwise, we can totally picture ourselves sipping an Earl The Pearl, an earl grey tea-infused vodka cocktail with mint and lemon, or a Golden Peacock, a saki mixture with flavors of cucumber, granny smith apple, pineapple and mint.
In keeping with the "Beauty & Essex" theme of '30s glamour with a twist, we've coordinated the perfect outfit for grabbing drinks, dinner, maybe some more drinks, and oh yes, visiting the pawn shop. So, channel Grand Hotel, and throw in a dash of Peggy Guggenheim for a night that will live in the holiday history books. The setting: The Lambs Club, a new, clubby restaurant that will transport you to Poirot the very instant you step through the restaurant's front doors. Modeled on next-door institution Sardis, the clean lines and whispered chic decor, coupled with the padded-leather red sofas, shiny steel lights (echoed in the gleaming space-age chairs), serves up a generous helping of Art Deco style, all housed in the equally sleek Chatwal Hotel. We recommend pairing the American fare—roasted lamb saddle (duh), farm chicken, Delmonico steak—with a stiff Gold Rush, a potent concoction with Bourboun, lemon, and honey.
Don't worry about the outfit, we got your back. It's best to imagine you're Jean Harlow, sashaying into the room sparkling in the dim light of the fire, dripping straight-up luxury.
