Purple Magazine, Now Available In T-Shirt Form (With An R29 Discount!)

Yes, your favorite dirty, delicious French fashion mag, Purple is now publishing their text on cotton as well as paper, thanks to a tasty little collab with one of our local heroes, Johan Lindeberg's BLK DNM. To celebrate the first-year anniversary of their launch (wow, has it been a year already?), BLK DNM invited Purple's scruffy, nudie-pic snappin' editor-in-chief, Olivier Zahm, to curate an in-store art exhibit at their Soho store featuring the works of Spencer Sweeny, Max Snow, Olaf Bruenning, and, naturally, Terry Richardson. On view from tomorrow, Saturday February 11 till Fashion Week's end on the 16, the exhibition, on top of the photos, music, and film that adorns the space, will house the collab— a cool tee featuring text by Purple contributors Olympia Le-tan, Mark Lecky, Lisa Yuskavage, and David Salle. If that wasn't enough, there'll be a nice kick off party from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow with poster signings by Robert Longo at 3 p.m. and, best of all, you'll get 40% off your second pair of jeans whenever you mention Refinery29 at checkout all the way until Purple vacates the premises on Thursday! Bargains, bashes, and fashionable baseness – all in one place!
When: Saturday, February 11 to Thursday, February 16.
Where: BLK DNM, 237 Lafayette Street (between Prince and Spring streets); 212-966-6258.

Wanna Be Friends With The DJ? Just Don't Request D.A.N.C.E
We've been around enough turntables in NYC to understand that requesting a song is not the quickest way to get on a DJ's good side, but let's face it, it's inevitable you'll be jonesing for your fave tune. It's a classic scenario for modern-day (er… night) NYers: you're out on the town dancing the night away, but you just know everyone would have a much better time if you could just hear that new Rihanna song — or, any Rihanna song — just one more time. But how do we do it without offending the deej and becoming a pariah of NY nightlife? There's always screaming the name of the song you want to hear or hijacking the DJ booth, but, like, how much more obnoxious could you be? On behalf of DJs everywhere, three reps recently put party-goers out of their (our) misery and spilled all on requesting and tipping—and whether either of those matter at all. Ladies Who Lunch (In Ferragamo): Nina Garcia Shows Off Her Spots

At Wednesday's Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center 4th Annual Associates Luncheon, the cause was just and the style was sensational. With Salvatore Ferragamo's spring '12 collection providing a backdrop of colorful animal-print fashions, attendees toasted soliders in the fight against cancer while flaunting their Ferragamo (and maybe had a glass of wine or

Lana Del Rey Rocks A Gold Tooth And We're Confused (Again)
In her latest attempt to distract us from her confusing SNL performance, Lana Del Rey has been sporting a glittery gold cap on one of her canines. And no, we don’t mean her dog has a cute sparkly hat. We mean this girl is actually attempting to rock tooth bling. Naturally, this comes on the heels of many other aesthetically questionable decisions, one of which was letting her PR team run wild with her “gangsta Nancy Sinatra" image (we would also include the lip enhancement, but the truth is that those pumped lips gave her an edge). Sure, we can’t fault a girl for chasing her dream, and what a beautiful dream it is — making it in a "Hollywood Sadcore" world that is one, big, hazy '70s trailer park where everyone is devastatingly sexy and the sunlight is always warm and yellow (sigh). But, in all honesty, her attempt to rock a golden tooth is not quite the path we would have chosen for ourselves. How do you feel about the bling? Is it a bold move that deserves some praise, or perhaps just an attempt to gain some attention? (Huffington Post)

How 4 Cool Couples Keep The (Creative) Fires Burnin…
Single, married, shacking up, eternally pining — life can be challenging no matter where you are in the relationship game. And while we like to think of ourselves as mighty individualists all the way, there's no denying it can be a comfort to have a solid partner in crime in your corner: Someone who loves you, respects you, gets all your secret hand gestures, and, ultimately, makes your good works in the world even that much more meaningful (and major!). So, in honor of the très corny day that delights in all things true love, we’ve gone in search of four truly inspiring couples that give the double-duty theme new meaning, sharing their lives and their creative inspirations — and proving, at least in our eyes, that that whole thing about soul mates just might be true after all.

5 Things To Know This AM
If you didn’t already know, it’s expensive to live the Sex and the City dream. Apparently, the average rent of a New Yorker is $3,352/month. Yikes. (Animal New York)
We admit to keeping some motivational photos of Tracy Anderson for our workout inspiration. The difference between this behavior and stockpiling photos of rail-thin models as “thinspiration” is the same as the difference between locking your door at night, and locking your door because the aliens are trying to kill you. (Huffington Post)
Some very badass makeup by MAC (the theme was “Gothic cowboy”) at Nicholas K. for your viewing pleasure. (BirchBox)
Even models fall, and sometimes they fall hard. Check out the top blunders, here! (Complex)
When they’re all dolled up, it’s easy to think these girls are older than they are- but seeing the fresh-faced models wandering the city during Fashion Week, looking dazed from all the go-sees, we’re reminded of how young they really are! The CFDA is now urging its members to require that models walking their shows are at least 16; we’ll see how that works out. (NY Times)

Introducing New York's Definitive Must-Shop Store List (Plus Deals Galore!)

New York is a part of our DNA. Sure, we have some stellar on-the-ground reporting from our other cities, but Refinery29 grew up here, cut its teeth in the big city, and the Big Apple is the place we call home. So when we were tasked to choose our 29 favorite stores in the entire city (!!), the pressure was on. This wasn't something that we could take lightly — this city raised us, after all. So, our only rules: No major chains, and each store needed to have a specific charm that came from pure, unmistakable NYC flavor. If the suspense is killing you (dun, dun DUN!), then head on over to our new "Stores We Love" hub. But, even better, if you're in the mood for some serious wardrobe upgrading, we've asked some of our featured stores to come up with exclusive deals for our readers. Whether these are your mainstays or you've never ventured through their doors, the spots we love all have fresh deals to get your weekend started early. While you are at it, see if your favorite boutique made our list, here.
Alice + Olivia Wants Us To Get Into Their Pants
It's been 10 years since one of our faves, Alice + Olivia, launched their brand and they're going back to their roots… pants! To celebrate their decade milestone, Alice + Olivia launched their first ever global ad campaign in (where else?) the heart of Times Square, called "Get Into Our Pants". And, don't mind if we do! If you've noticed the matchbooks, coffee sleeves, bumper stickers, and condoms with the brand floating all over the city, you'll know this feisty campaign is really not meant to be subtle. Its cotton candy colors, neons, retro stripes, and bold florals grab our attention just as much as the tagline, and when you have Chelsea Tyler, (daughter of Steven Tyler) at the center of the campaign, how could the photos not turn heads? Oh, and not to mention their pants are uh-mazing? So, sure, we'll be happy to get in them.

Bon Iver On Whiskey And Lebanese Moisturizing Tips….In 60 Seconds
Has it already been five years since the Bon Iver swoonfest began? The indie-crooner seemed to go directly from a cabin in Wisconsin to a Kanye collaboration, and is now staring down a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist (and stirring up a little controversy along the way).
Jewels & Dinner? Dannijo's Presentation Had No Models, Just Food
The girls at DANNIJO sleep, dream, live, and eat jewelry... and so do we (dude it's calorie free!). But every so often, we need to take a break from gobbling up cuffs and cocktail rings to nosh on some real food. So, last night we gathered at West Village restaurant Kingswood to nosh on nom noms—including the best rocket salad we've ever had— with a very chic, very blinged-out gang to celebrate #NYFW, and of course, some wild-style jewels. Instead of the typical presentation, Danielle and Jodie Snyder were the designers we've heard of to do a dinner mise-en-scène to showcase their new fall '12 baubles. An array of 'Jo muses donned a piece from the new collection and wore them during the meal—no standing still, no runway, no bright lights, just the product in real life. We're guessing this was probably the only Fashion Week event where it wasn't a "don't" to show up wearing the same (or similar) piece.

Happy 50th CFDA! We Chat With Steven Kolb On The Big Day

The Council of Fashion Designers of America has marked a milestone anniversary with a book and exhibition titled IMPACT: 50 Years of the CFDA. Created by CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg and curated by Patricia Mears, deputy director of The Museum at FIT, IMPACT celebrates the fast-growing force of American design with a collection of garments and accessories created by the organization's most prominent members. To get the deets on what makes the organization's golden anniversary so poignant, we sat down with CFDA CEO Steven Kolb to discuss the evolution of American design, and where we can expect it to go in the future.
The Met's Most Famous Figures Get Slimmed Down In Photoshop
Fashion is no stranger to the body-issue debate — it's a place where lean is always on trend and (apparently) Karl Lagerfeld can call Adele "too fat" without reticence. Now, the industry has gotten its hands on the Met. When Italian artist Anna Utopia Giordano applies a little Photoshop magic to the iconic images (once regarded as the ideal female form) they get an instant-slimmed-down makeover more brutal than a Hearst cover. Granted, the figures are still beautiful, but we think this isn't how nature or the artist intended it. Does a Botticelli babe need a whittled-down waistline? You be the judge. (Flavorwire).
