Musical Muses: New Look's Grunge-Glam Style

Hailing from Canada, New Look creates the kind of soothing, electro-dance music that makes us feel like we're suspended in that magic hour right before the sun comes up and you're still wearing your party shoes. Their self-titled album has been stuck on repeat ever since we saw them perform live in NYC a couple weeks ago. Producer/musician Adam Pavao and his wife, former model and singer Sarah Ruba are the newest darlings of the indie-pop scene, and we're obsessed with their whole package: their music, their story, their sensibilities… Also, have you seen them? If they aren't our generation's version of Sonny and Cher (with talent to match), color us blind. The duo let us into their charming Brooklyn pad, and frontwoman Sarah answered a few questions about what it's like making music with your main man at your side.

Elettra Wiedemann's Cool-Girl Date-Night Looks

We live in an age of slashies. Writer-slash-waiter. Designer-slash-DJ. Actor-slash-singer. While we usually find the "/" annoying as all get out, there are a few multi-taskers out there who have earned their professional stripes (or slashes, as the case may be). Like Elettra Wiedemann, a model-philanthropist-environmentalist-restauranteur, whose pop-up restaurant, GOODNESS — will return to NYFW for the second season in a row, this week.

Featuring fast, fresh eats from chefs like Mario Batali, Julian Medina, and Alain Allegretti, the culinary master behind La Promenade des Anglais, Wiedemann's made her Columbus Center spot a must on every editor's NWFW hit list. Ahead of the madness, we stopped by La Promenade to chat with Wiedemann about all things food and fashion, from mom Isabella Rossellini to model diet secrets and beauty tips. And good grief— those outfits. Elettra models four looks for us that are entirely on-point for a perfect date. From a casually glam pants-and-flats ensemble to a sexy-and-you-know-it ikat dress, these options really traverse the sartorial spectrum. Okay, we can't resist one more pun — this girl is good/great.

Saturday, February 11 to Tuesday, February 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Robert, at Museum of Art and Design, 2 Columbus Circle, 9th Floor.

I Love My...Ink-Stained Rachel Comey Boots

i-love-my-embedJohn Jannuzzi is a New York-based editor at Lucky Magazine. You can catch his constant stream of tweets at @johnjannuzzi or his fashion and literary musings at Textbook.

"A good pair of shoes is difficult to find for anybody, but especially for people like me with weird feet. I won't get into why they're weird, but take my word for it.

Anyway, before I moved to New York, I was pretty much a serial New Balance and Adidas wearer. There's certainly nothing wrong with that (in fact, if you catch me in the early morning I'm usually still in a pair) but as my career progressed, I had to step it up a little bit. A couple of years ago, I went out looking for a new pair of boots to get me through the winter. After checking a ton of different places, I found a pair in West Village's Odin. They were the Rachel Comey Burnside boots. They fit perfectly and were classic enough to last through several seasons. From then on, I became a Comey devotee.

"As much as I love the Burnsides, I have another pair of Comey shoes that I like better: the Black Bess in brown. These were actually a birthday gift last year from my friend Julia (Frakes). Like most good shoes, they took a while to break in, but they were completely worth it. The leather was stiff, but turned soft after a few weeks and they can be worn with pretty much anything — suit, jeans, whatever you got they can handle. So, not only do they have sentimental value, but they're practical.

"Like the Burnside boots, these wore in great. The leather is supple, but not nasty-looking, and there's an ink stain (from a typewriter, long story) on the left shoe. They've held up through the weather. I wear them every day, so I suppose, yes, you could say I couldn't live without them and yes, I love them. Thanks Rachel Comey, you make a damn good shoe."

NYC's Coolest 4some Shows Us How To Throw A Tasteful Rager

We've thrown a swanked-up dinner party. We've hosted an incredibly intimate cocktail get-together. Now, in part three of our holiday entertaining series, we're going out with a bang — or, rather a bangin' rager. And who better to swipe large-scale event tips from than the four of the most popular kids in town? Enter, Elle.com Editorial Director Keith Pollock, Wren founder-designer Melissa Coker, Steven Alan's head of visuals/merchadising John Guidi, and photographer Thomas Whiteside. The minute the FB invitation to their seasonal blowout pinged our inbox, we knew we had to get this foursome to let us in on their set-up secrets. We stopped by Pollock's East Village apartment the night before the shindig, to snap the process — and snag the quad's tips (quotes below are from Keith and Melissa) — after all, it's not every Saturday-night house party that manages to stay tasteful. Seriously, with an outdoor tent (!), hurricane candles, festive lights, Momofuku cake balls, and a rose punch, this rave was all rad, no bad.

Small-Space Entertaining: Our Guide To Throwing A Tiny (Perfect) Party

We've already established that good things can come in small packages. Bigger isn't always better. And quality is way better than quantity. The point we're making? Our senior editor, Kristian Laliberte, lives in a 247-square-foot East Village studio apartment, and he wanted to throw a holiday party. Enter part two of our seasonal entertaining series: how to be a top host-with-the-most in a tiny space. We shot a blow-by-blow of the getting-ready process, from mixing a Christmas-colored statement drink to finding floral arrangements that are are more cheerful and less overwhelming. The result is a very (very) intimate get-together that's short on square-footage, but high in style. We'd have sent you an invite, but, well, you'll see...

My Style: Anna Sheffield's Punk-Chic Southwestern Abode On The Bowery

We'll be the first to admit that, yes, we've been a little more than obsessed with Anna Sheffield's architectural, oftentimes raw jewelry since the very beginning, with its perfect marriage of punk sensibilities and victorian elegance. And now, with the launch of Anna Sheffield's newborn bridal collection — boasting the same edgy essence as Bing Bang, Bespoke, and AS Fine Jewelry, but with a timeless, heirloom-appropriate twist — we can actually imagine a world where our own vows can be approached with the same playful nod to our rebellious teenage years, laced with old-world grace and a healthy dose of high-end glossing. So, what makes this astronomically accomplished, game-changing designer tick, aesthetically? Well, you needn't look further than her cozy, humble abode, nestled snugly in the heart of the once-dingy, notorious Bowery neighborhood in downtown Manhattan. With walls decked out in salvaged, weathered wood one might only find in an Albuquerque ranch home, the tattooed, one-time Marc Jacobs muse puts New York City's small spaces to shame, making good use of every square inch, in one of the most design-conscious ways we've seen in ages. Peppered with vignettes of sculptural trinkets from her travels, native sage, colorful pops of embroidery, and southwestern elements galore (like her oh-so lust-worthy incorporation of Sonoran Catholic art just about everywhere), Ms. Sheffield finds room for everything, including her friends' art and even a small balcony garden overlooking the East Village. Click through, but be prepared — you won't look at NYC small-apartment living the same.

Model Coco Rocha's 4 Runway-Ready Looks

Lara Stone has that unmissable gap. Adriana Lima's got to-die-for dimples. Lindsey Wixson's lips won't quit. We're all for supermodels with signature features, and perhaps the most unmissable (and enviable) of all is Coco Rocha and her sharp-enough-to-cut-yourself cheekbones. And the Vogue cover girl's style is just as razor sharp. To get you in the mood to add some fierce (hey, she was just on ANTM!) to your holiday wardrobe, we hit up Coco to pose in four oh-so-runway outfits. She obliged happily in looks that have all the studs, chains, leather, and shearling booties you could possibly need. Inside her Gramercy Park apartment, the Canadian import—who effortlessly mixed H&M and rag & bone—sat down with us for a frank and funny chat that covered everything from budget buys and bold lips to her brand-new jewelry line (wait 'til you see that bracelet). "If you're the first one to call yourself a supermodel, you're not!," says Coco. And guess what? She wasn't.

The Most Impeccable Bachelor Pad We've Ever Seen

Our design philosophy has always been, "surround yourself with things you love." And it was working well until we looked around our apartments recently and realized we love a very…uh….eclectic mix of worldly home goods—placing our bedrooms' haphazard designs somewhere in-between hoarder and Moroccan bazaar. But, seeing as how we're going to be bundled up inside very soon, meeting Kevin Sharkey, Martha Stewart's right-whisk man (because we all know Ms. S. has whisks and glue-guns for hands), is making us realize simplifying our hibernation hide-out is the way to go. One space-saver? Sharkey's dining-room doubles as a ping-pong arena—trust us, it's flossy not fratty. We got a first-hand tour of Kev's 2,500-square-foot sleek, shiny, and spare stake in the Richard Meier towers on the Westside Highway—those views, that terrace, those closets—and we're ready to move in immediately, if not sooner! As Martha herself says, "It's a good thing."

My Style: Inside Andrea Linett's Rad LES Digs

Full disclosure: We've been big Andrea Linett fans for a long time. And we know we're not the only ones. During her long tenure as the founding creative director of Lucky magazine , Linett drew legions of followers who flocked to the mag month after month just for her inspired editorials and irreverent yet totally laid-back approach to personal style and dressing. And now, as the creative director of eBay fashion, she's bringing a lot of that honesty, fun, and fashion fearlessness to a whole new audience (Read: Amazing fashion does NOT have to be scary!). Truly, it's hard to describe Linett's own personal style: Kind of edgy, kind of minimal, kind of no-nonsense chic. However you sum it up, it's always cool, which is why we wanted to hear more about how she dresses, where she shops, what she loves, and where it all goes down—in her modernist mix-and-match Lower East Side apartment.

Just click through the slideshow (and interview!) to learn more about this local visionary's recent obsessions and rules of the wardrobe...and we thought we had a lot of shoes!
