Shop It NowSummer Reading, Beauty Edition: Lipstick Queen Liptropolis
Since we've reached hoarder status here in the beauty department, we've tried to impose some limits on ourselves when it comes to acquiring new products. Standing our ground has been rough this month, but we've made real strides. So, when we give in without a fight to Liptropolis, Lipstick Queen's latest trio, we won't feel quite so terrible.
The first set in the Lipstick Library series, a lipstick storybook collection, Liptropolis was inspired by the '20s movie, "Metropolis." Each lipstick is named after a neighborhood in Manhattan, where company founder Poppy King claims "you know if a subway is going uptown or downtown by the lips." Why are we totally craving these lippies, you ask? Each shade — Soho, Central Park, and Upper East — is totally wearable and would look pretty on pretty much everyone, so you're not getting locked into a "what the hell do I do with this color?" situation. It's a new formula for the brand — not opaque, but not quite sheer, and ideal for the unpredictable temperatures of spring. Plus, we're loving the little book-style box they're packaging these babies in (books, so hot right now). Though Liptropolis is only the first member of the The Lipstick Library series, we have a feeling that this is the kind of cliffhanger that we could get used to.
Lipstick Queen Liptropolis, $48, available in May at Barneys.

Derek Jeter Schools Us On Primping (In 60 Seconds)
We R29ers aren't exactly what you would call "die-hard" sports fans. Sure, we know the difference between the 50 yard line and the free throw line, but you won't catch us signing up as volunteer umpires anytime soon. That said, there are certain things that can get us to a stadium in a hurry: hot guys, and, well, hot guys. So, when we heard that Derek Jeter was partnering with Avon to relaunch his Driven and Driven Black colognes [Ed Note: Yum!], we hightailed it up to the Bronx to check it out. Number 2 himself took some time out of his majorly hectic schedule (like, six games a week hectic) to talk perfumery with a group of lucky reporters, and let us in on some of his hygiene secrets.Genius! Chanel Uses Sign Language To Sell Nail Polish
From daintily holding dewey roses to pretending to play the violin, hand modeling can be awkward to say the least. But leave it to Chanel to find a chic and innovative way to show off their new nail polish colors. Teaming up with filmmaker Ruth Hogben (who's previously worked with Louis Vuitton and Gareth Pugh), Chanel's creative director for makeup, Peter Philips, created a video for T magazine that's both inspired and beautiful. In it, Dutch model Saskia De Brauw uses sign language to communicate some of Coco Chanel's favorite quotes, all the while drawing attention to her nails, polished with the brand's newest lacquers. Not only are we impressed by how much can be communicated without inflection of the spoken word, but also (of course) with the colors themselves. Check out the video and let us know what you think: Do you prefer this artistic interpretation or should we stick with pictures of paws on products? (T Mag)
A Rugged Candle Made Just For The Dudes
Glamping. It's real, folks. Yes, camping with a full retinue of luxe products is slowly becoming the norm for visits out into the wild. But that doesn't mean the particular brand of fashionable extras you take with you have to be the frilly kind. For a touch more light and a lot more aroma around your campsite, pack F.S.C. Barber's new Signature Camping Candle (crafted right here in NY) specially made for rugged excursions to nature. Clean burning, packed in a rough-and-tumble wood box, and poured into a durable, shatter-proof enamel pot, this soy-based mix of cypress, lime, myrtle, thyme, and cedarwood is just the right thing to cover the staleness of an old tent or cast a light that's more romantic than a Coleman lamp. While ladies won't mind the clean, outdoorsy odor, we think it's just right for dudes who might like to light one up but had reservations about the whole aromatherapy thing. Just remember to extinguish it just like Smokey the Bear taught ya. F.S.C. Barber Signature Camper's Candle, $55, available at Freemans Sporting Club; 8 Rivington Street (at Freeman Alley); 212-673-3209. .

Win A Medal For Being Just Okay (And Smelling Awesome)

Let's face it — most of us will never win an Olympic medal (unfortunately running in heels is not recognized as a multi-national sport— we're aware and we're working on it). But that doesn't mean we don't deserve a little recognition. Rather than getting secretly bitter that we quit soccer to take up scrap-booking (what?!), we're throwing down for this super-cute soap that also gives us an ego boost... well, kind of. It's Need Supply's Scent Of Mediocrity Soap — a lather-able soap-on-a-rope kudos that comes in Gold, Silver, and Bronze. It's the medal for all of us New Yorkers who never got to practice our windsurfing. Sure, it may be called mediocrity but with fragrance notes of "bourbon, tonka bean, lavender, saponified organic olive, coconut, and palm oils," we're sure it'll leave you smelling like a champion. And that's what's most important.
Need Supply Scent Of Mediocrity Soap, $12, available at Need Supply.

The Fashion Week Lipstick You Need (And Can Actually Buy!) This Spring
The beauty industry is notoriously a tease when it comes to products used during Fashion Week — we lust after the makeup looks, only to discover they are custom blends that won't be going into production. Not so at Karen Walker's spring '12 show: Clinique and Global Colour Artist Jenna Menard created a coral lip hue for the show, but unlike other custom cosmetics backstage, this one will be available for purchase."I chose bright coral because it's less expected than red," explained Menard. Having seen this color up close, we can attest that it's just as stunning in person as it was on the runway. It's pigment rich and quite vivid — not at all what you are used to seeing from the brand and their usual barely-there lipsticks. While Clinique is being awesome and sharing this gem with the public, it's not a permanent shade: Runway Coral will be available for a limited time as an online exclusive starting this May. Looks like it's time to start hoarding.

Wahoo! WAH Nails' Crazy Nail Art Visits NYC
While nail art has now become part of a standard beauty routine for many women, the fingertip phenomenon may never have made it into the rotation if not for WAH Nails. Three years ago, after Sharmadean Reid was denied the Dior double French mani she had requested, she decided to open her own London-based salon where you could have "whatever you wanted" on your nails. Whether you're getting the F-bomb graffitied on your tips or ten little Louboutins as your mani, WAH Nails is up for the challenge. Famous nail artists, including Sophy Robson, have been singing their praises since they opened, and we're just as obsessed. The only bummer? If you're nutty for avant-garde nails, you'll have to head across the pond — they only have locations in the UK.
But could a WAH Nails NYC be on the horizon? The salon's launch of their new book, The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art, is bringing them to New York for the first time. WAH Nails will be hosting a pop-up nail bar at W Union Square, this Thursday, April 19, but it is exclusive to hotel guests. We're hoping that this is a step toward funkier fingers in the city, and we can hardly keep from biting our nails in anticipation. (BeautyHigh)

Try To Top This: A Caviar La Prairie 30-Minute Facelift
With the inevitable (but welcome) change of weather fast approaching and wrecking our already fragile skin (admit it, you spent all winter frowning, too), everyone could use a little pick-me-up in the facial region. Lucky for us, La Prairie has the dreamiest new treatment that promises to be just the answer to our skincare woes (not to mention, the epitome of luxe). Aptly named the Caviar Express Lift Facial (that's right, it's an instant facelift... with caviar), the 30-minute treatment includes a "lifting massage" using La Prairie's super luxurious Skin Caviar Liquid Lift. Although it is a shorter, express treatment, La Prairie leaves no prisoners behind — the estheticians at the spa use a special eye-version of the caviar serum on the eyelids, the Lip Renewal Concentrate for a moisturizing lip treatment (smooches, anyone?), and end the facial with a grand finale scalp massage. Plus, it leaves you glowing instantly—perfect for a first date.
As if this didn't sound pampering (and fancy) enough, the facials are available (where else?) at The Ritz-Carlton Spa. Can't wait to stuff your face with caviar (literally)? Proving spiffy doesn't have to mean spendy, this facial won't break the bank as much as you might think. The entire treatment is only $95, although a bottle of the serum will run you $500 (but we're sure it's totally worth it).
La Prairie at The Ritz-Carlton Spa (2nd floor) at The Ritz-Carlton Central Park, 50 Central Park South (at the corner of 59th Street and 6th Avenue), 212-308-9100.

Koh Gen Do Premium Pressed Powder
Koh Gen Do takes their amazing Manifashi Pressed Powder (one of my top picks and best-sellers) to new highs of luminosity, with a striated trio of skin-brightening shades in sand, pink, and brown. It sets makeup, diminishes shine, and lifts skin without ever looking chalky or flat.
$73, available soon at Barney's New York.
Lipstick Queen Saint Lipstick in Eden
The perfect summer coral? Lipstick Queen's Eden.
$18, available at Space NK.
Kevyn Aucoin The Eyelash Curler
The BEST eyelash curler in the industry; totally replaces that one from the brand I can't even recall the name of…
$20, available at Nordstrom.
Tatcha One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil
I've been waiting for a new mineral oil-free cleansing oil and now we've got one from Tatcha, a new line of very simple skin care that utilizes the anti-inflammatory benefits of red algae, green tea, and rice bran. It's based on the formulas and philosophies of geishas. The cleansing oil, serum, and moisturizer leave my skin softer and brighter, plus I love that you can select the texture of exfoliating grain to add to the cleanser, ranging from gentle to classic to deep.
$48, available at Tatcha.
Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum
Every year, the fragrance buyers provide me with at least one new scent I become obsessed with; this year it's the premiere fragrance from Bottega Veneta. It's an intoxicating blend of iris and (what else?) leather. Rarely can a fragrance be so intensely original and feminine without being cloying or flower.
$130, available at Bottega Veneta.
Chantecaille Ultra Sun Protection SPF 50 PA+++ Anti-Glycation Primer
The best makeup primer with SPF is Chantecaille Anti-Glycation Primer. Makes skin smooth — with or without makeup — has no color, no SPF scent, and is oil-free.
$85, available at Chantecaille.

How Much Would You Pay To Get Rubbed Down With Diamonds?
When it comes to new and unusual beauty treatments, we're more than happy to put our bodies on the line. Stiletto nails? Tried 'em. Led Zepplin massage? Oh yeah, baby. Stick-on eyeliner? Been there, done that. And while we stop just short of getting our lady bits outfitted with fur, there is a whole world of strange and wonderful beauty treatments available in NYC...if you can afford them, of course.
Racked recently gave their readers the low-down on eight of the most expensive spa treatments in the city, which include the aforementioned vajazzling, plus a few decidedly more normal options like Photo Rejuvenation light treatments to reduce skin damage ($450), and a massage/wrap that promises to slim you down ($180). While we'd be more than happy to spend time getting a flower peel ($265) or getting covered in mud from Morocco ($220), the crown jewel of this list has to be a massage at The Spa at Trump SoHo (why are we not surprised?), where you can get rubbed in oils that have been infused with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires for the bargain price of just $295. We like being pampered as much as the next girl, and what could be more luxurious than a treatment that leaves you literally dripping in diamonds? (Racked)

Say What? Yup, The Brozilian Is Exactly What You Think It Is

If you thought Tim Tebow hitting up the nail salon was whack, then you’re really going to be thrown by this one: male bikini waxing is seeing a spike in popularity — and we're including the services that take it all off, here. We've heard of male waxing before, but it has never been nearly as accepted or prevalent as it is right now. So, what's causing this below-the-belt boom? While many brozilian (yes, really) waxees just like keeping it fresh and clean down there (just like us ladies), many dudes see waxing as reciprocating. Evan Scott, 32, interviewed by The New York Times, has been getting his situation taken care of for more than two years now. “If I have that expectation of someone else, I probably would want to return the favor,” he said. However, not all men are as democratic about their man parts — many see waxing as an opportunity to accentuate the main event, an optical illusion of sorts. (Nice try, but we know what we’re looking at.)
We can't pretend we're not intrigued by guys taking the opportunity to de-fuzz (or in some cases, de-shrub — but we’re not judging!) what they’ve got going on in their trousers, but there is one down-there service that we are not on board with: penazzling. Like its sparkly or feathery vajay-jay counterpart, some spas offer post-wax crystal application. For men. We like that you’re willing to keep it clean, guys, but steer your jewel-covered junk elsewhere. (NYTimes)
