How do you like to start your day? What news show do you like to kick it off with? We don’t play favorites. Instead we feature anchors we love, one being Norah O’Donnell who delivers the news alongside Charlie Rose and Gayle King each morning on CBS This Morning. Turns out, she’s also a foodie! We photographed O’Donnell at the new RedFarm uptown and found out her favorite on set snacks, why vintage is the new thing in news, and details on that time she teased Anderson Cooper.
What would be your ideal food day?
"For breakfast, I love fresh berries with honey and mascarpone cheese. For lunch, a Tuscan Kale salad with pecorino, dates, pine nuts, and citrus vinaigrette. For dinner, my favorite meal is from my husband’s restaurant Chef Geoff’s, the Chicken Chop Milanese. It’s a bone-in chicken breast scaloppini with arugula, parmesan, and roasted tomato."

How do you always start your day? What’s your morning routine?
"I start my day very early to get ready for CBS This Morning — we’re live at 7 a.m., so I typically wake up at 4 a.m., read through six different newspapers while I’m having my hair done, and then try and eat some Fage yogurt with a cup of blueberries and flax seed to give me energy."
What’s always on set with you?
"I always have one mug that’s filled with water and another mug with hot tea."
Your on-set snack?
"A red apple, sliced, with peanut butter."
What’s your drink?
"On set I have hot Irish Breakfast tea with skim milk. On a night out I love a glass of crisp white wine."
What’s the beauty routine you do every morning?
"My morning routine is pretty straightforward. I like to use Shiseido Night Moisture Recharge in the morning on my face and Chanel Chance perfume. If I have puffy eyes, I will add La Mer eye cream."
"My mother makes the most wonderful lasagna."
What won’t you travel without?
"My running shoes and iPod Nano."
What products are always inside your bathroom mirror?
"Saline solution for the contacts and moisturizer with an SPF!"

In the same vein as “What is the new black?”, what’s “the new potato” of news?
"I like to think vintage is back in the news. Despite the explosion of websites and social media tools like Twitter and Instagram to help disseminate news, you can’t replace good old fashion reporting. That’s what we are trying to highlight at CBS News — original reporting."
How has the news industry changed since you first started?
"When I started reporting fifteen years ago, I wore boxy suits and shirts with a high collar. Now many female reporters and anchors wear sleeveless dresses on the air — which was taboo just a decade ago."
Your TV go-tos?
"Homeland and Game of Thrones. I have three young kids so don’t have much time to watch much other than the news!"
"Sometimes we turn up the tunes and have a dance party at 6.30 a.m. Seriously."
Best food item sent to the set ever?
"I once teased Anderson Cooper that he should bring breakfast and he showed up with bagels for everyone. It was such a surprise and so charming."
What are your vices?
"Bread and butter."
What are five things you’re loving right now?
"Long runs in Central Park, my kids learning to read, quiet dinners with my husband, Verdura jewelry, and the exciting five seconds right before our show hits the airwaves."
What are your favorite cities for food? Where do go in each?
"I’ve only begun to sample everything that New York has to offer (since we’ve lived here for only a year) but some of my favorites include Marea, Telepan, Porter House, Il Gattopardo, and Harlow. When we’re in Washington, DC, we love Chef Geoff’s!"
If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead, who would be there? What would you cook (or order in)?
"I’d invite the Pope, Justin Timberlake, Hillary Clinton, Jenna Lyons, and Mary Barra. I’d ask Cesare LaFranconi of my husband’s Italian restaurant, Lia’s, to prepare the meal. To start, we’d have burrata with focaccia and lemon-truffle arugula. For the main course, branzino balsamico, with sautéed spinach, pine nuts, and raisins."
