The holidays aren't even through yet, but we've already managed to unwrap some pretty great musical gifts. This week, we've got a new video from Beyoncé, another great track from Burial's Rival Dealer EP, and a surprising team-up from Matthew Dear and Tegan and Sara. Closing things out are some fiery rhymes from upstart emcee Angel Haze, a remix of Blood Orange by Holy Ghost!, and a new one from Jessie Ware buddy Dornik. Have a listen!
Beyoncé
"XO"
Last week, Beyoncé dropped an epic bomb (in a good way) when she released her new, self-titled "visual album" on iTunes. Now, Queen Bey is slowly rolling out the accompanying videos, and "XO" is the roller-coaster blast of fun we hoped for. What a ride.
Burial
"Come Down To Us"
Last week, we shared the title track from dubstep impresario Burial's new EP, Rival Dealer, but the true highlight is the 13-minute "Come Down To Us." Featuring a quote from transgender filmmaker Lana Wachowski, the song is a potent and emotional plea for understanding and acceptance.
Matthew Dear feat. Tegan and Sara
"Pale Shelter"
Well, this was unexpected. Moody electronic mainstay Matthew Dear and sisterly pop duo Tegan and Sara have joined forces to cover the Tears For Fears classic "Pale Shelter." The result is an effervescent re-imagining of the goth-pop masterpiece that morphs into a dance-floor whirlwind.
Angel Haze
"A Tribe Called Red"
After a Twitter tirade this morning, up-and-coming rapper Angel Haze dropped her new album Dirty Gold straight to SoundCloud against her label's wishes. Though the LP was quickly pulled, fans still have the supremely intense "A Tribe Called Red" to satiate themselves until the record's official release.
Blood Orange
"You're Not Good Enough (Holy Ghost Bootleg)"
Yesterday, Dev Hynes took to Twitter to announce that his apartment had tragically burned down in a fire, destroying all of his belongings and killing his puppy, Cupid. This remix of "You're Not Good Enough" by Holy Ghost! is a great reminder of the sublime music Hynes released in 2013. If you want to help him out, there's a fundraising page you can donate to right here.
Dornik
"Rebound"
Before striking out on his own, Dornik drummed for Jessie Ware, and the two certainly share a similar pop sensibility. "Rebound" is Dornik's latest single, with an electro-funk tinge that recalls Prince (or any number of '80s pop artists, for that matter).
