This Is Our Jam: Solange, SZA, & Ecstasy's Take On Carpe Diem

This week, we've got some new tunes, covers, and re-imaginings from some of our favorite recent artists. First, it's a new one from the inimitable Solange, a guitar-heavy cut from Angel Olsen, and the newest from SZA. Then, it's a near-perfect cover from Joanna Gruesome and an upbeat cut from U.K. pop newcomer Ecstasy. Good stuff!
Solange
"Cash In"
Released on her new imprint, Saint Records, "Cash In" sees Solange in slinky, R&B mode. It's a gorgeous track — chilled-out, sexy, and catchy all at once. More, please.
Angel Olsen
"Forgiven/Forgotten"
Abandoning her signature spare folk for fuzzed-out psych, "Forgive/Forgotten" sees Chicago singer/songwriter Angel Olsen in full-on retro-rock mode. We love everything Olsen has released so far and can't wait for her upcoming album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness.
SZA
"Ice Moon Revisited (feat. Ab-Soul)"
TDE's first non-rap signee continues to impress. Here, the previously released track "Ice Moon" gets some added love from Black Hippy member Ab-Soul, rounding out the track nicely. We've said it before, but SZA is going to be a massive star.
Joanna Gruesome
"Tugboat (Galaxie 500 cover)"
Taking on slowcore legends Galaxie 500, Joanna Gruesome delivers a faithful redo of bummer classic "Tugboat." It's not often that a cover comes across so faithful or so infinitely re-listenable.
Ecstasy
"FRNDS 4LYF"
U.K. export Ecstasy specializes in bubbly rhythms and soaring synths. The goofily titled "FRNDS 4LYF" is an oddly uplifting piece of pop with a carpe diem vibe we can happily co-sign.
