Visiting Wine Country? We Found The Perfect Outfit For Under $100

One of the perks of living in Santa Barbara is having an amazing wine country in our backyard, the Santa Ynez Valley. It’s one of my go-to places to take friends and family when they come to visit because of the beautiful landscape, always-sunny weather (I live in SoCal after all), and spectacular wines. Fall is my favorite time to go since the wineries are bustling with action as they harvest the season's grapes.
The first question my visitors always ask before flying in is, "What should I wear?" My answer is always simple: something comfortable, chic, and breathable. Since the temperatures are notoriously high during the day (yes, we don't get the four seasons on the West Coast), anything constricting or stuffy is never a good idea. I recently scored the perfect look for a wine-filled day at T.J.Maxx and managed to scoot out of there without spending more than $100. This isn’t your usual maxi dress ensemble. Oh, no. I found the perfect head-to-toe look for my favorite vineyard of them all: Sunstone Winery. It's like stepping into a villa in Tuscany — the ultimate place to sip in style on this side of the Pacific.

Wine tasting is all about having a leisure day of soaking in a little joie de vivre. I like to be able to plop down anywhere with a picnic blanket and a glass of wine to take in the view, which means skirts and dresses aren’t always the best idea. I spotted this silk, designer romper at T.J.Maxx that's equal parts functional and chic.

One thing I’ve always loved about any wine country is the beautiful, earthy shades from the vines to the stone buildings. I like to wear colors like mossy green, golden yellows, and burnt oranges to mimic my surroundings. The saffron-colored silk tie and subtle pattern of my romper blends in perfectly with the scenery at Sunstone Winery. Seriously, I couldn't have complemented the rusted hinges on the antique front door more.

To stay in the warm family, I went with gold jewelry with some cuffs and statement rings. You can count on someone noticing those sparkly baubles in the sunlight.

High on my list of must-haves for fall is a pair of suede booties. I’ve found that they’re super versatile since you can wear them with pretty much everything in your fall wardrobe: cuffed jeans, dresses, or in my case, rompers. If you can only invest in one, I'd recommend a boot that's dusty brown, like this classic designer pair I found at T.J.Maxx. You want to find a pair that has a short heel for easy wear and I love that this boot shaft stops right at the ankle, making my legs look extra long.

A day of wine tasting definitely calls for comfortable shoes since you're on your feet for a good chunk of the day. Plus, vineyards don’t lend themselves well to heels. Think grass, gravel, and dirt. A sturdy chunky heel is much better suited for traipsing around a vineyard than stilettos.

My husband and I love coming up here for lunch and a glass of wine because it always feels like a mini vacation. If you're coming out to Santa Barbara for a day filled with wine and sun, don't forget to give me a ring!
