It's easy to fall into the fast fashion traps of the seasons, but succumbing to all of them will inevitably drain your bank account (not to mention your closet space). The key is learning how to decipher which trends are here to stay and which have an expiration date.
For this week's Q&A on My Stylist, Jennifer D. from New Zealand says, "I'm sick of buying cheap accessories and clothes that don't last. What are some timeless staples I should invest in?"
First, you want to avoid one-season wonders (fur-trimmed sandals, anyone?) and invest in trends that will stand the test of time. In most cases, the more you spend, the better the quality, which ensures years (and years!) of wear. Click ahead for the three staples I think should be in every woman's closet.
If I had to pick just three, the first would be a single sole pump, like this one by Christian Louboutin. You can wear it with anything from a pair of jeans to a fancy cocktail number. Then I'd pick a well-fitting leather motorcycle jacket like this from Acne and a cashmere sweater.
These three items will transition from season to season without looking old or outdated, so they're worth splurging on. For those flash-in-the-pan trendlets (think crop tops and skorts), head to stores like Topshop and Zara, which offer a bevy of options at wallet-friendly prices.
