While I wasn't brave enough to rock a full head-to-toe prints outfit, or god forbid mix them, I decided to take a forward step. It all started with a simple, striped sweater. It was black and white, and paired well with jeans and skirts. Before I knew it, I was pairing stripes with floral dresses, polka dots, and any other print I came across. Mixing prints gave my outfits more personality and has since become my best styling trick. I love that with prints the opportunities are endless — no two are the same.
Though I'm extremely partial to polka dots, I'm not picky when it comes to prints. This spring, stripes, watercolor, and geometric prints are on my must-buy list, like this gorgeous watercolor dress and tweed jacket I scored at T.J.Maxx. The dress is by one of my favorite designers and has the cutest button-up necktie that provides an extra layer of dimension. And the zippers on the jacket pockets toughen up the tweed so it doesn't scream grandma.
Then, I added an electric-yellow quilted, chain bag and metallic sandals. I love the muted colorfulness of this outfit, which makes it wearable for work or a lunch date to my favorite taco joint, Malo on Silver Lake (they have the best chewy tortilla chips). And, the watercolor print is one of those graphics that would look amazing with so many different textures. Maybe I should dig up that much-loved, striped sweater of mine.
