Ditch The Cutoffs, These Stunning Getups Are Made For The Boardwalk

Yes, we L.A. folks are spoiled with great weather all-year round, but there are times when the heat waves become unbearable — like this past weekend. To escape, I grabbed my orange bikini and tote, and drove to Santa Monica. Even though it's pushing 90 degrees everywhere, the temperature drops to a comfortable 75 by the beach. And per my MO, I whipped up two beachy getups from T.J.Maxx that'll take me from the sand to the promenade — and even to a hot restaurant for happy hour. Who says beach style has to be grungy?

Every beach trip requires a chic cover-up that will take you from the sand to the pier in style, like this pretty paisley sheer dress. Its unique and colorful print practically demands having a piña colada under a cabana at a tropical getaway — but I'll have to make do with a cold beer on the promenade instead.
The chiffon material and bold print make this cover-up look way more pricey than what I got it for. And, though you can't see it here, the sherbet orange in the dress matches my orange-and-gold bikini underneath.

White is one of my favorite colors to wear in the summer, because it provides a fresh contrast against all the other colors. This necklace stands out without being too extravagant.

For happy hour drinks and tapas at Rustic Canyon, a sheer number won't do so I threw on this bold, geometric print maxi and added a red, alligator skin, envelope clutch. I kept the necklace and added a chunky, gold chain bracelet to up the glam factor. And finally, an easy way to look more formal in a flash is to do an updo like this topknot.

Every summer I always look for a new pair of sandals that can be worn both on and off the boardwalk. I contemplated getting nude-colored sandals for their versatility, but ended up going with this fun, teal color instead. I love the unique design of the straps. They add the perfect pop of color to my summer outfits.
