The Power Of Pastels — This Getup Will Make You A Believer

Living in Chicago can be tough, especially when your apartment is the size of a shoebox and you're sharing it with a boy and a 75-pound chocolate lab (named Webster). When decorating, I decided on a gray palette with gold, black, and pastel details to appease my boyfriend's more manly preferences, while still having hints of my favorite sherbet hues.
Over time, this little apartment in Lincoln Park has become a happy place with all of our favorite things. And with pastels being summer's standout palette, my recent outfit choices have been a direct reflection of my apartment décor and pastel obsession. Take a tour of my cozy digs to see how I'm incorporating this summer trend into my home and style, ahead.

For the warmer season, I try to keep my wardrobe fresh by recreating my go-to outfits in soft pastels and clean neutrals. A few days a week I work from home, which can typically be a trap for a day spent in workout clothes.

So today I threw on my favorite designer blouse, an open knit sweater for ease, and a couple of bright baubles to round out the look — all from T.J.Maxx. This outfit strikes an easy balance of comfort and style.

This lavender silk blouse has the prettiest little floral print and has been a serious player in my closet this season. The sleeveless silhouette makes it very easy to layer under a blazer and the smaller scale of the print looks amazing when contrasted with a bigger pattern. I love finding amazingly versatile pieces like this — especially when I get 'em for a fraction of what I would find at a boutique.

Shoes play a huge factor when determining whether your outfit is going to be dressy or casual, but wedges can teeter between the two. The cutout detail and ankle strap of this pair can fancy up any ol' dress, but the wedge makes it relaxed enough for a pair of denim.

For my home, I try to purchase items that I love without really worrying about whether or not they'll work together. I take this idea with me when I shop for clothes, too, and in the end everything sort of clicks.

Sometimes I like to showcase my recent purchases in my dressing room to help inspire new outfits that I wouldn’t normally wear. These slim, boyfriend, fuchsia-colored jeans are a fun rendition of the colored denim fad and they look great with a floral print.

If there is one pastel color that coordinates well with my entire wardrobe, it's mint, which is perfect since it's one of the season's standout colors. This bracelet is a favorite of mine because it's an arm party all on its own, and when paired with an oversized ring, makes a monochromatic statement with just two pieces.
