Having been totally obsessed with Liz Schneider’s traditional-with-a-twist ensembles for some time now, we expected the Sequins & Stripes blogger and professional stylist to be full of styling tips and ultra-femme finds when we met up with her in her native Lincoln Park. But, what we didn’t know is that this splendid lady’s like a walking, talking Yelp, with stockpiles of suggestions catered specifically to us. Hungry? Not a problem! In search of a boutique only the locals know about? She’s got that, too!
Take a look — and grab that MTA card — as she gives us the lowdown on Chicagoland as a whole. From her abode in Lincoln Park to Boystown’s clutch brunches to some insidery Lakeview shopping tips, tag along as she plays tour guide in the most chic way possible.

How did you get into fashion?
"I grew up in Hinsdale, a small suburb outside of Chicago. Once graduating from Ohio State University with a BA in textiles, I became a clothing buyer for a small Midwest boutique chain. After a few years, I decided to start Sequins & Stripes as a creative outlet, which segued into starting my own company! My education was what opened my eyes to a career in the fashion industry and my job as a clothing buyer really turned it into a full-on obsession."
Alexander Wang Rocco Bag, $895.
We love Sequins & Stripes! What do you think makes it stand out from all the other blogs.
"I think my personal style is very approachable. I focus on personalities and tailor current trends to an individual rather than dole out blanketed advice. Plus, I have fun with it! Personal style is all about expressing yourself and feeling confident."
Tell me about what you’re wearing!
"This is my go-to look if I’m going to work, meeting a client for lunch, or grabbing happy hour with friends. It has a feminine silhouette, is easy, and looks like it comes together without much effort."
How would you describe your style?
"I would describe my personal style as feminine, classic, and colorful — with an edge."
What are your go-to neighborhoods for shopping?
"Wicker Park and Bucktown are really fun and eclectic. They’re the hipster neighborhoods of Chicago filled with fun boutiques, like Nanette Lepore and Alexis Bittar. These shops are filled with items you won't find in a department store. North of Lincoln Park in Lakeview is the Southport Corridor, which has great shopping, too. It has Perchance boutique and Krista K, which are two of my favorites."
Commando Matte Opaque Tights, $34.
How did you go about putting this outfit together?
"I feel like I’m drawn to edgier pieces that will work with what I think is my girly, feminine style, which is why I like my Alexander Wang Rocco bag. It has a great shape but has thick, heavy studs on the bottom. I love novelty pieces that you don’t have to do much with — they just kind of make the outfit on their own."
Dana Rebecca Designs Sylvie Rose Rings, $330, available at Dana Rebecca Designs.
You're not just a blogger — you run a successful styling business, too. How did you get involved in that?
"I began offering styling services to the customers I had as a clothing buyer. My clients are typically women in their 20s to their 50s who need a change in their lives, a boost of confidence, and a clear sense of personal style. The biggest problem women have is dressing for their body types. It's fun for people to see that you don't have to be a size 2 to wear today's trends, and my services are all about creating an individual style that allows you to feel like your best self."
What facet of your company resonates most with your clients?
"My most popular service is wardrobe organization, where we purge those unwanted items, bring life back to the items that have been stuck in the back of your closet, and find new ways to wear the pieces that you love. The service ends with a clean and organized closet to maximize (and help!) the way you get dressed. Additional services include personal shopping, event styling, shopping lists, closet styling, and e-consulting. Check it out!"
Birds On A Wire The Childress Necklace in White, $72, available at Birds On A Wire; Bauble Bar Pave Tab Strand, $48, available at BaubleBar.com.
Where around Chicago would you wear this look?
"I swear, sometimes with my style I look like I’m five years old! But, I like girly accessories, like this sparkly belt paired with the cute tailored dress. Layered with the cream tweed jacket and paired with these polka dot black tights, this look is something I could wear to go out to a party or special occasion. It's not something I would wear every day, but it's the outfit I wear when I want to have fun with my look."
What’s your favorite area to eat out at?
"Well, I am a total foodie! One of my favorite neighborhoods is Boystown. It’s just a little bit north of Lincoln Park and they have amazing little restaurants, like my favorite Mediterranean restaurant Casbah Cafe and a great Mexican restaurant Chilam Balam."
Where do you usually meet up with friends?
"I love hole-in-the-wall bars, and Lincoln Park has some great bars that have been around forever. The Black Duck and The Local Option are both neighborhood gems. There are some great places around my office in downtown, too, like Sunda."
Who are your fashion icons?
"Miroslava Duma, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Miranda Kerr, and Olivia Palermo."
