1 Piece, 3 Ways: Rethink The Leather Jacket

As Chicagoans, we are never content with the weather — it's either too hot or too cold, and is almost always too windy. Chi weather is the porridge to our Goldilocks, but fall tends to be the one season when it's just right.
That's when I turn to my most versatile item: the leather jacket. No matter the weather, it can be called on to dress up a pair of shorts, add some edge to my work attire, or layer over a maxi as the last piece that turns it in to an outfit. But I wanted one that wasn't your run-of-the-mill basic black, so I headed to T.J.Maxx and found this sweet beige jacket that's by one of my favorite designers no less! Click through to see how I'm turning this leather topper into three chic looks, next.

One of my favorite things about living in Lincoln Park is that everything is accessible. I'm steps away from my favorite restaurants and my usual route leads me through Oz Park where I like to take my time meandering through the gardens. Because this jacket is in a neutral beige, I can throw it on top of any print and not worry about it clashing. Hello, leopard!

To let the floral shorts and leopard clutch have their moments, I finished the look with a pair of two-toned, chunky heels in beige and white. While these shoes were a huge summer trend, you can be sure of seeing more of this neutral pairing in autumn.

I’ve been a big fan of mixing textures (on top of prints) this summer and although the snakeskin print is subtle in my jacket, I love how it looks against the faux leopard fur of my clutch.

I'm lucky enough to have a very creative work environment, so I’ve been experimenting by swapping my tailored blazer for this leather jacket. A pencil skirt (in a fun print, of course) paired with an oxford shirt helps keep my look sophisticated for work. But once 5 p.m. rolls around, I ditch my workbag for a bright blue clutch — tassel necessary.

I am a firm believer that shoes can completely alter a look (and mood!), like these leather studded heels. I love how these shoes make me feel like my 9 to 5 never happened.

The weekend is an obvious reason to pull out my maxi from T.J.Maxx for one extremely important objective: do absolutely nothing. Topped with my jacket, this outfit works for coffee at Floriole, brunch at Toast, a quick trip to the farmers' market, and an afternoon shopping in the Southport Corridor. Once fall is in full force, I’ll throw on a big, cozy scarf and a pair of flat booties to keep me warm.

The easiest way to wear a moto is to complement it with bright accessories. My banana yellow tote and teal ring add the perfect dose of color. But if I wanted to stay neutral, I could've easily swapped them for a black leather bag, gold accents, and rich jewel tones. How are you wearing your moto this season?
