Sweet Spot: This Polka Dot Dress Hits A High Note

I've always gravitated toward anything feminine, and nothing makes me feel more ladylike than a sweet, floral dress — which is why I have so many of them. My closet is bursting with skater dresses and maxis all printed with blossoming florals that can rival the Botanical Garden.
So, I couldn't be happier that fit-n-flare dresses are on trend this spring, which is another excuse to indulge in just one. more. dress. I'm keeping an eye out for the perfect one to add to my collection. Ahead, my last ultimate dress hunt of the season.

For shopping days, I like to wake up early on Saturdays, wear comfortable shoes like these wedges that won't slow me down, caffeinate at Chestnut Roastery, and head out before everyone else does so I can call first dibs. I love making my rounds through my go-to shops, like Chloe Rose Boutique, Heidi Says, and Curve SF, but today I want to find investment pieces without the investment so I'm hitting up T.J.Maxx.

When I’m shopping, I always gravitate towards dresses first. I’m all about finding that one statement piece. There are so many pretty prints and colorblocked pastels here, but I know I want a dress in a floral or polka dot print.

I’m a pretty decisive shopper. Instead of sorting through every rack, I let different patterns and prints jump out at me, making for a much quicker shopping experience. And this green, polka dot dress did it. I'm always a sucker for polka dots and I know a wrap dress will be versatile and easy to wear, not to mention flattering.

If you took a peek into my closet, you'd see that I am literally a bag lady — I can never have enough! This oversized white clutch echoes the white dots in the dress, and the black-and-gold hardware on the purse gives a mod edge.

My next stop is jewelry, my favorite section. I like to wear a couple delicate rings, or layer a wad of different bangles and bracelets all on the same wrist. My golden rule with jewelry is go light when wearing prints, and go heavy with solids.

I was leaning towards mixing gold and silver bangles, but I love the way the cream and green bracelets bring out the color in the dress. It's always fun to have little pops of color on your wrist. Plus, I can see myself wearing these with a simple white T-shirt and ripped boyfriend jeans on the weekends to the farmer's market.

Finding the perfect shoe is like the icing on the cake — it really makes or breaks the outfit. I'm 5'5" and always opt to add a few inches to my frame, but not at the expense of my feet! I'm really into wedges right now because they give that extra height, but are still comfortable. I also feel like wedges are the shoe for spring – when you see girls starting to wear wedges, you know it's warming up.

Since I chose a dress with such a bold pattern, I wanted a shoe that was neutral, and my jaw hit the floor when I spotted these straight-off-the-runway, tan-and-black wedges. I've been lusting after a pair of two-toned straps just like this one, and I knew I hit the jackpot! I couldn't believe the price on them and, just my luck, they had one pair left in my size. I love that the straps are in neutral tones so that I can wear them with virtually any color. I can't wait to wear these to an upcoming Imagine Dragons concert I'll be going to at the end of the month.

Successful shopping days like today keep me coming back for more. I can't believe I found those amazing wedges, and I'm definitely wearing the polka dot dress tonight for dinner at Nopalita with my girlfriends. Delicious Mexican food and a great outfit, here I come!
