Mighty Brights: Spring's Standout Trend

I know warm weather is on its way when color starts trickling back into the storefront windows. Seeing yellow, magenta, and tangerine hues replace the gray wools and navy blues is my favorite time of the year. But, I'm not partial to bright-colored ware just in spring. If you walk into my closet at any given moment, you'd be standing inside a rainbow of neon-colored blouses, printed pants, and sherbet-hued dresses. You'll probably never see me wearing all black, but that doesn't mean I wear neon pink from head to toe, either. Whether I wear color as subtle accents, or I jump in with some bold colorblocking, here are some tips I keep in mind to make sure I don't look like a human-sized glow stick.

Like I said, I'm not one to be intimidated by color (my go-to outfit is high-waisted black skinnies and a floral blouse). When I saw this bright orange designer dress at T.J.Maxx, it was a no brainer — that baby was mine! The chiffon is light and makes for an easy, breezy outfit paired with a belt. I immediately starting envisioning the places I'd wear it: On the weekends with a jean jacket, to the beach over a swimsuit, or even dressed up with heels for a casual wedding. If bright orange is a little too much for you, you can try a softer shade in peach or coral.

Go waist-deep
Another easy way to incorporate brights into your wardrobe is by wearing one solid, bold-colored top paired with a neutral item, like denim. The rich, bright pink color pared down with a blazer works perfectly for work, or you can layer multiple necklaces over it to create one big statement piece for a night spent at your weekend haunts.

Wet your toes
If you're not up for fully embracing the bright trend, you can incorporate it in a subtler way with accessories. A pop of color in a necklace or a vibrant heel will stand out, but not overpower your look, and you can easily throw them on with any outfit, which will still keep you afloat on the brights trend.
