There are some trends that look enticing but are too intimidating to wear, like over-the-knee boots. Those extra inches of fabric offer infinite potential to turn a whatever outfit into a stand-down killer ensemble, if you know how to pull 'em off. After a few years of trial and error, I've figured out a couple easy ways to wear these eye-catching kicks without having model legs.
First tip, although I love me a maxi, it just doesn't cut it here. Stick to a short skirt, dress (long sleeves are highly recommended), or jeans. Here, I went the short-skirt route. Although the boots engulf most of your legs, they are quite the opposite of demure. Those few inches of skin can be enticing, which is why I found balance with an oversized jacket and printed tee.
Lovers + Friends Wildcat Tee, $48, available at Revolve Clothing; Lovers + Friends Days Like These Jacket, $148, available at Nordstrom; Asos Skater Skirt in Leather Look, $33.82, available at ASOS; Urban Outfitters Palais Floppy Hat, $49, available at Urban Outfitters; Villomillo Ruke Backpack, $581, available at W Concept; Aldo Sturmy’s Flat Over the Knee Boots, $160.18, available at Aldo.
Here, I opted for skinny jeans. Adding over-the-knee boots gives a completely different look from pairing them with ankle boots or flats. The skinny fit is key to avoid any annoying bunching. I like pairing a look like this with a collared button-down or a loose tee with a fun necklace. If you decide to add a jacket, try ones that are cropped so they don’t compete with the lengthy boot. Proportions are your best friend here! How are you wearing your over-the-knee boots?
