How To Style A Mini, Midi, & Maxi Skirt

comments

I feel lucky that as a woman I have so many options when it comes to style. I'm not just confined to a pair of slacks and a button-up with a patterned tie. When things start to feel a bit monotonous, I like to experiment with my clothes, especially when it comes to skirt lengths. Just a few inches can make a ton of difference. By snipping or adding to the hemline, you'd style the rest of the outfit differently.

The Mini — Mini skirts are fun and flirty, but since we’re showing off the gams in all their glory, keep the top covered up. I like how a simple turtleneck complements the bold, floral print. The simplicity of the top doesn’t compete with the textured, jacquard mini. Add some fun accessories like this Chloé bag and Vanessa Mooney earrings to finish the look.

The Midi — Midi skirts are classic feminine pieces that remind me of the I Love Lucy days. Since the hem of a midi falls just above the ankle, the most important styling tip is to wear shoes that elongate the leg. This means finding a heel or boot that's low-cut; bonus points if it has a pointed toe. If you wear a shoe that is too high, you risk making your legs look short. And, we can't have that now, can we?

The Maxi — Maxi skirts have been trending for several years now but I for one am not over them. When it comes to styling, it all depends on the skirt's fit. If you're wearing one that sticks close to the body, go for a top or blouse that's loose — keeping it relaxed will provide an ideal balance. But, you can wear a fitted top with a fitted maxi. There are really no rules, here! You can balance out the snug ensemble with an oversized jacket or a loose kimono. In this case, I chose a more relaxed-fitting maxi and a structured top.
