While Legally Blonde has been many a fashion obsessive's only outlet into non-skirt-suit sartorial options, the Miami-based attorney behind NuSophisticate proves that well-thought outfits can be the cure-all for a predetermined uniform. (Whether or not it includes seasons-old Prada pumps, of course.)
The tailoring and enviable pairing of Jillian Martin’s unfussy yet refined ensembles make her workweek getups well beyond simply stylish, and read like a guidebook to why beloved investment pieces are always the right choice to make.

You're an attorney and love fashion. How does that work?
"I'm someone who loves classic silhouettes, intricate details, and unexpected elements. I am also an attorney who works in an extremely conservative office, which means I am constantly reworking the latest trends to make them more work-appropriate. At the core, my life is all about being authentic and creating an environment where others can be their most authentic selves as well.
"Interacting with the lovely people who visit my blog has been the most rewarding thing about running NuSophisticate. The biggest lesson that I learned from maintaining this site is that it is okay to be a multidimensional woman that unapologetically explores all of her interests."

Who is your style icon?
"My mom! The older I get, the more I appreciate her brave style choices. I’m constantly flipping through old photos of her and figuring out ways to recreate her amazing looks. Plus, she still has tons of vintage jewelry and clothes that I permanently borrow when I visit."

Are there any challenges when trying to stay on trend in your profession?
"Tons! But those challenges become easier to navigate with practice. Some trends, like this spring's black and white trend, are easy to translate into your professional wardrobe."
What's the last great thing you bought?
"My last great purchase was the deeply discounted Moschino trench in this outfit. I stumbled upon it at a discount store and just happened to have an additional 40% off coupon that I used toward the purchase. I kinda felt like I won the lotto that day."
Tell us more about this dress.
"I am obsessed with polka dots, so this dress had me at hello! It's oh-so-ladylike and the full skirt makes it amazingly fun to twirl in. I paired the dress with the orange pumps to add a bit of color, and topped the dress off with the trenchcoat because I love the look of full dresses and trenches."
How do you manage to incorporate trends into your workwear that aren't office-friendly? Do you just steer clear?
"Though not all trends can be easily translated into a professional wardrobe, if you parse out the elements in the trend that you like, it becomes easier to incorporate those elements into your work outfit.
"For example, if you're really into peek-a-boo elements in clothing, it's probably a bad idea to wear an item with that's see-through near the midriff to work. But, if you move those elements to the neckline of the garment, it becomes more work-friendly. Once you break down what you like about a trend, it's easier to think of the ways in which you can transition that trend into your workwear."

What do you enjoy most about Miami?
"I think the eclectic mix of people is what makes Miami special. There's so much culture here — so many different types of people to meet, different genres of music to listen to, different native cuisines to sample. Living in Miami has provided me with constant opportunities to grow and has been a reminder that the world is so much bigger than what we see in front of us."

What are your go-to neighborhood shops?
"For funky items that you won't see on every girl around town, I usually go to a few small boutiques in the Brickell area. But, for my high-end splurges I'm a sucker for the shopping selections at Bal Harbour."
Where do you hit up for vintage duds and consignment finds?
"When it comes to consignment or vintage shopping, my girlfriends and I usually hop in our cars and take the short road trip to Boca Raton. It's only 30 minutes away and overflowing with one of a kind treasures!"
What are your favorite brands?
"I wear everything from Moschino to Forever 21 and love them all."
GAP jacket, Ann Taylor button-down shirt, Joe's jeans, Christian Louboutin heels, Aldo purse, vintage jewelry.
This outfit seems so you.
"This is what you'll usually find me wearing on weekends — jeans and a white shirt. I think it's one of the chicest combinations that a woman or man can wear. I added a bit of my personality by layering pearl necklaces and a touch of glam with the Christian Louboutin pumps, and I payed homage to one of spring's biggest trends by topping the look off with a striped jacket."

Why should people come to you for fashion advice?
"I have a knack for finding amazing workwear pieces that work both on and off the clock. I'm also skilled at identifying timeless pieces that will work in your closet for years to come, and mixing those pieces with trendier items to create a polished but contemporary look."
