My shoe collection is surprisingly lacking the perfect Chelsea boot. This emptiness was made even more apparent to me when I saw reincarnations of said boot in the collections of all my favorite designers: Alexander Wang, Saint Laurent, Phillip Lim, Prada, Alexander McQueen. The designs ranged from an edgy cutout heel, to a classic simple design, all the way to a stunning ombré effect in brushed suede. I was quickly convinced I needed a pair and set out on a frantic search for the perfect bootie.
My requirements: a softly pointed toe (super chic and modern), a flat square heel (to get the most mileage out of them), a short shaft (flattering for my short legs), and a matte leather finish (most versatile) — all for under $200 (courtesy of my college loans). While I searched for the perfectly chic boot, I daydreamed about all the outfits I could be pairing with them — too many to list, but I will share with you my three favorites. They include the best fitting, waxed skinnies I’ve ever found, a sweet floral dress, and culottes — the hottest trend from spring '14 runways in my humble opinion. Click through to discover my Chelsea boot finds plus three awesome outfits that you can style with them.
I used to think that I could never pull off culotte shorts, but after seeing them on the runways I decided to finally give them a try — and I love them! For the styling I keep things chic and simple so my newly found Chelsea boots pair perfectly with the shorts. All you need to add is a chunky sweater to finish the look.
I love mixing pretty pastels with edgier pieces. Pair a powder blue silk blouse and coveted blush pink coat with my favorite waxed skinny jeans — they fit like a glove and impart just the right amount of edge to any outfit. The Chelsea boots are a chic finishing touch.
Can’t get enough of the grunge trend but still want to look polished? Pair a flared floral dress with a tailored biker jacket and a sleek boot.
