Myrtle’s New Lookbook Is A Delightful Ode To Tomboy Style

Truth be told, it’s been a long while since the good ol' days of hand-me-down Umbro athletic shorts, backward hats, and scraggly bangs (that frumpy fringe still haunts us!). But it’s our long history of hearting the tomboy aesthetic that's solidified our current obsession with all things slouchy, buttoned, and moderately to majorly gender-bending. Los Angeles shopkeeper Whitney Bickers of Echo Park’s Myrtle boutique must be of the same style mind.
Inspired by the boyish blog Tomboy Style, and the identically named new tome, Myrtle’s most recent lookbook reads like a gorgeously faded vintage photo album. A sprinkling of sunny-but-subdued shirt dresses, loafers, and pinstripes? Check. A crazy-gorgeous, grassy-hued linen suit? You got it.
Photographed at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House right here in L.A.'s Barnsdall Park, the photos feel both retro and modern. This all makes sense, since that’s exactly what Myrtle offers shoppers – a mix of vintage threads and new designs from A Peace Treaty, Alexandra Grecco, Fieldguided, Scout & Catalogue, Ambit, Mary Meyer, and more.
