As Miamians, we see a swimwear trunk show pretty much everywhere we turn. Now, we love checking out new sales, but sometimes it's hard to get motivated to try on bikinis after we've been brunching all afternoon. Saving The Gulf + Eco-Awareness = Best Earth Day Fashion EVER
Sure, there is a certain amount of commercialization in Earth Day, but when brands and designers are inspired to showcase and price-slash their eco-friendly wares, we can't be that upset — it would just be nice to be that conscientious all year long. So when David Peck, one of our favorite young designers, announced his weekend-only Earth Day sale, props were due: Besides having utterly wearable clothes, CrOp By David Peck sources materials from a mixture of fair-trade and eco-friendly producers and then gives 10% of his proceeds back to his inspiration. For instance, David turned to New Orleans for his spring '12 range, mixing French flair with down south sophistication, and then donated part of the sales to The Gulf Restoration Network.
Now, for the eco-celebration that is Earth Day, Peck is offering an amazing 15% off his entire collection, which will benefit the revitalization efforts of the Gulf of Mexico —a great gift to our slightly more Western neighbors, but also a rather pleasant surprise for Florida wardrobes. Champers And Italian Design: This 'Red Hot' Shopping Event Can't Be Missed
We love ourselves some Alberta Ferretti, so we were psyched when we got wind of her capsule collection for Macy's, following on the heels of Giambattista Valli and Doo.Ri. The lower-priced line is finally debuting, and you can check it out at this Tuesday's launch party. Macy's and Miami Magazine will be previewing the collection, and stylist Rachael Russell will be on hand to dole out fashion advice (like, how cute is this floor-length floral?). In addition, DJs will be spinning tunes, drinks will be flowing, and guests who make a purchase of $40 or more will receive a free gift bag courtesy of Macy's. We love posting sales on Refinery29, but sometimes we get a break and are treated to a sale, a news story, and a giant heap of WTF all in one. For those readers who get a little envious at the rash of "buy peoples' forgotten stuff" shows (looking at you,

), Miami Internation Airport is hosting its very own auction of discarded baggage this weekend. Starting tomorrow, those missing out on worn clothing, strollers, or a meat slicer (?!?) can head on down to the airport and bid on goods. Objects, jewelry, cell phones, and tech equipment left behind at security can be rummaged through, but the real steals are apparently the unopened suitcases. Auctioneer Paul May says that one year a lucky buyer even found a whole heap of British pounds. (While he didn't confirm this, we are guessing fun add-ons like dirty personal objects and bed bugs are included, gratis!)
