Beauty Boutique Doubles As Salon For Ultimate NYC-Imported Glamour

BNY_salon

Last October, beauty wonderland Brilliance New York opened its flagship location on Lincoln Road, gearing up to be a one-stop shop for all things hair, skin, and makeup. Selling Brilliance New York products, the brand introduced customers to a luxurious, new label of products, including a mineral-infused foundation and a diamond-plated flat iron rumored to make your hair super-sleek and smooth. If you have yet to shop at the Miami Beach location, we now have an even-more enticing reason: Next Wednesday, the boutique launches its first salon, so customers can finally land an all-in-one beauty experience.

The grand-opening event will feature mini-makeovers, beauty tips from celeb stylists, a few raffle wins, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres from West Avenue Café. Plus, some of our favorite local bloggers will be in attendance (they never miss a beat), including Maria Tettamanti of The Wordy Girl, Ginger Harris of Electric Blogarella, and Kelly Saks of Kelly’s Kloset. We're super-curious about these products (a diamond-plated straightner?!), and this looks like the perfect time to try 'em out. And to make things extra-interesting, we might just show up straight from the beach and see if the stylists are up for a little challenge.

Where: Brilliance New York Boutique + Salon, 631 Lincoln Road; 786-276-6389
When: Wednesday, May 16, 7 to 10 p.m.

Bobbi Brown Releases A Shimmery, Sun-Kissed Miami Collection

Look, we like when we play muse. It suits Miami well, and we aren't surprised when creatives take our shores as inspiration. So for Bobbi Brown's summery collection, the famed cosmetics brand turned to us for their summer '12 offerings, sending forth a beautiful, sun-kissed selection of shadows, shine, and fragrance. With a heavy helping of coral and plenty of gold-tinged additions, the lipsticks, eye creams, and a revamped "Beach" fragrance, Bobbi Brown explains that, "This collection recreates the fresh, glowing look you get at the beach." (Well, Bobbi means the glow most get at the beach, your author is prone to look more like a crustacean after a day on the sand.)

New shades include different types of gold, like the lighter Candlelight and a metallic Copper. Lip shines are pretty safely in the pink family, even if Peach Sorbet has a tinge of orange, and the line has a couple of limited edition finds like the cheek glow. Check out the Miami Collection (yep it's named after our city) for yourself, and let us know: Did Bobbi Brown nail the city's golden glow?

Miami Smells Like Sand And Coffee, Says Perfumer

miami_bottleWhether you’re walking down Ocean Drive with a café con leche on an early morning, laying on the sand down in Crandon Park in the steamy afternoon sun, or dining in Brickell on a cool winter evening, the Magic City certainly yields a number of unique scents. The challenge of all challenges? Capturing the essence of all these smells into one mesmerizing perfume.

Yes, it’s not often you hear of a perfume emulating a city’s scent, but that’s exactly what was asked of master perfumer Rene Morgenthaler by the Scent Marketing Institute when they went to him about making a sensuous creation dedicated to the smells of Miami. According to Ocean Drive, Morgenthaler took on the challenge and spent six months testing thirty different variations of the olfactory awesomness, triggering a number of radiant scents such as jasmine, sun-baked sand, coffee, salty air, Cuban cigars, and orange trees. Just thinking about the combination put us in a daze.

Apparently, fans of "Miami" (the scent, not the city) felt the same when testing the aroma, fully intended as just an air diffuser, and demanded to know where they can purchase their own bottle. We certainly can’t wait to get our noses near this fresh fragrance, not only to smell its irresistibility, but also for the mere fact that it will remind us of all the reasons we love this city. Available at Air Esscentials, 2801 Florida Avenue, 305-446-1670. (Ocean Drive)

3 Juice Cleanses That Won’t Drive You Bananas

juice_mainThe holidays were months ago, but there are still some gifts we’d like to return. In fact, the average American is still carrying four to six of them (or two to three, if you're metric), somewhere around the waistline. Which might explain why spring is the most popular season for juice cleansing — it's like rinsing your body and giving it a "spring cleaning" of its own.

There’s a lot of discussion over the efficacy of a juice cleanse, but that hasn’t stopped millions of folks from turning to a week of bottled produce. Until recently, one result was virtually guaranteed: crankiness. For most folks, a day without solid food is like a day without, well, food. That’s why we checked out these programs, which offer more than just bottles of green and the vague promise of health. We can’t guarantee you’ll turn into Gisele, but you’ll sure be less likely to get in a screaming fight with your roommate’s cat. That’s not a good look on anyone.

lalabig

LaLa Anthony's been on our radar for a while: She first caught our attention as a feisty young MTV VJ, but she's managed to stay in the public eye with her addictive VH1 reality TV show, LaLa's Full Court Life. We recently reported that the personality, mother, and wife (of NBA star, NY Knick Carmelo Anthony) showed off her entrepreneurial side with the launch of Motives for La La, a joint effort with Loren Ridinger of Motives by Loren Ridinger. And we were on hand for the the new line's official debut party last week, right here in Miami— a star-studded fest that included guests like Kourtney and Kim Kardashian. Spa Special! Treat Yourself To A Little Pre-Valentine's Pampering

strawberry_facial In the mood for a sweet pre-Valentine's Day treat, but worried about overdosing on chocolate as February approaches? The Spa at Equinox has come up with an indulgent way to get you your sugar fix, calorie-free.

To get ladies psyched for Hallmark's most major holiday, the spa is offering a pretty sweet discount on a new package, letting beauty fiends score a three-pack of gorgeous Strawberry facial treatments for $386 (the original price is $465, so yes, still pricey, but they're knocking almost $100 off).

For those who are berry-curious, the conditioning facial contains a high level of vitamins and natural alpha hydroxy acid — which is meant to aid skin renewal. And because nothing goes better with strawberries than cream, the concoction contains a milk protein (along with aloe and wheat protein) to improve circulation and metabolism. The result is seriously smooth skin that'll be ready to get up close and personal come the 14th!

Valid til Valentine's Day. The Spa at Equinox, 520 Collins Avenue (at 6th Street); 305-673-1172.

Keep Your Hair Healthier For A LOT Longer With This Awesome Shampoo

aveda-invati-post We like to think that our bodies can tolerate any amount of abuse. And we test those limits by doing things like eating wild amounts of pizza or baking in the sun for hours at a time. Normally, the first point any critical type will make is that these things are terrible for your skin, and they're of course right. But have you given any thought to how your unhealthy habits might be affecting the future of your hair? Probably not — we sure didn’t!

Now that you're thinking about it, though, possibly you're interested in a solution? We got you. Introducing Invati, a new product line from Aveda that promises to reduce hair loss by 33% and claims to help you hold on to the voluminous nature of youthful hair.

Finding its roots in a 5,000-year-old Indian healing tradition, Invanti is made from 97% naturally-derived ingredients, including a mix of traditional Indian herbs, to help invigorate the scalp and its follicles. The three Invanti products comprise of an exfoliating shampoo, thickening conditioner, and scalp revitalizer — all designed with the intention of removing unhealthy buildup and reducing the rate of hair loss. We also found that it makes a killer volumizer for when your locks are looking a little limp and need to be refreshed. The Aveda product formulas were created in consultation with renowned traditional-medicine doctors from India, who worked with Aveda’s Botanical Laboratory.

And that's why you don’t have to travel to India to get your hands on this new miracle product. The Palms Hotel & Spa already has Invanti in stock. And if you just want to try it, simply book a blowout and the salon stylists will happily wash your hair with it. Growing pains not included.

Fort Lauderdale Gets A Big-Deal Celebrity Salon

ted gibson ft lauderdale - post

The W South Beach is so successful that sometimes we forget about its equally stylish, but way-more-laid-back sister property in Fort Lauderdale. Well, if you need a reason to visit, here’s a pretty amazing one: Ted Gibson Salon opens today inside the hotel.

Yep, the renowned stylist responsible for the locks of Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, and Zoe Saldana is bringing his primping philosophy to South Florida with the launch of this new 2,000-square-foot salon. Complete with fourteen stations, a L’Oreal Professionnel color atelier, and stocked with Ted Gibson hair care products, this beauty spot may be Fort Lauderdale’s answer to sophisticated hair — or so we're hoping, anyway.

Oh, you bright, young thing. You’re tanning on the beach with no sunscreen and you fall asleep with your makeup intact — and you still look damn good. So, why spend time and money on an eye cream, right? Wrong. Puffiness, fine lines, and dark circles don’t care about your age. They'll sneak up on you, and the abuse you're inflicting on your skin now can't be undone.

Unlike those unkind skin woes, though, we do care about you, so we handpicked five great eye creams that are perfect for 20-somethings. All of these beauty products are lightweight, non-greasy, and totally eye-popping. Yup, for real.

La La Anthony: Reality Star, Basketball Wife, & Now…Makeup Mogul

lala - post On her reality show, La La’s Full Court Life, we all see that La La Anthony lives a pretty hectic life. Well, apparently she managed to find at least a little bit of free time amidst all the craziness. Actually, more than just a little bit — enough time to work on her very own makeup line.

The former MTV personality announced yesterday that she's teamed up with her good friend, Loren Ridinger (senior vice president of Market America/SHOP.com), to create a collection of beauty products dubbed Motives for La La. And while Ridinger already has her own wildly popular cosmetics line, La La’s will be different because it’s a collection of mineral-based lipsticks, blushes, and eyeshadows created especially for African-American and Latino skin tones.

The real-life basketball wife will introduce her new venture next month during Market America’s 2012 World Conference, taking place in Miami. Historically, this conference has been attended by about 25,000 people, which makes us think La La’s new business could be a great fallback plan, you know, just in case her husband's whole basketball dream doesn't work out.
