What inspired you to write City of Style?
"Everything happening around me and the way in which many people in the city translate fashion and trends to suit the light and lifestyle of Los Angeles sparked the idea for this book. I’m pretty fascinated by how style evolves from various subcultures in every city and how it can inspire designers (and in turn consumers) to infuse these looks from the past into their current day wardrobe."

Did you find any interesting or surprising facts when you were researching?
"I had always had a vague understanding of the whole 'Dogtown' scene of Venice in the '70s, but never knew the intricacies. It was amazing to get to sit and talk with Stacy Peralta not just about that specifically, but how he and fellow surfers dressed through high school. There are so many sartorial staples that are so popular today that emerged back then. I got a fun fact when I spoke to Slash about how he got his top hat and conch shell band in the early, early days of Guns & Roses. That hat has become so iconic and it was great to hear him tell how he acquired it. Hint: He stole it!"
