An almost-new Silverlake boutique finds its roots in local talent. By Valery Joseph
mas_silverlakeopenLos Angeles eastsider Shannon Benedetti was tired of always having to make the trek from her Silverlake digs to the city's westside to find the offbeat, lesser-known clothing lines she craved. "I love being in Silverlake, so having to go to the west side every time I needed a good pair of jeans just didn't seem right," she says.
Taking matters into her own hands, Benedetti masterminded Mas, a shop that carries all her local fashion cravings—for men as well as women—and more. And much of the shop's provisions are debuting in this eclectic So-Cal 'hood for the first time. "Our focus is on bringing in lines that aren't available on the east side of Los Angeles," Benedetti adds.
The result is a carefully curated mix of local faves—Corpus, Cassette, Crispin & Basilio—and better-known indie staples such as Rogues Gallery, Mike and Chris, and Geren Ford, all showcased in a warm and sunny 750-square-foot nook. Doing brisk business since her September opening, it seems this proprietor's vision has been enthusiastically endorsed by her fellow eastsiders." The neighborhood has been so welcoming.
I'm so thankful, and I love being able to spend my days now in the shop…and in Silverlake."
