Certain beauty products — think NARS blush in Orgasm, Clinique's Black Honey lipstick — are so good, they're practically famous. And, while we do love so many of those well-known, well-loved products with a loyal following, we've been wondering why others have been quietly flying under the radar. With that in mind, meet our new beauty series, Cult Classics, in which we'll introduce you to the products you really, truly should know about (and try, like, right now). They're not brand new, but trust us: They've got staying power.
Sometimes, brand new products do become instant classics. Make Up For Ever's new HD Pressed Powder is one such miracle: Our first time trying it, we we were hooked. This translucent pressed powder is talc-free and has a super-fine, silky, weightless texture. It's perfect for every skin tone. Plus, a little goes a very long way, so if it leaves a chalky white residue, that means you've used too much.
The HD technology behind this product is one of the things that sets it apart. It creates that flawless, soft-focus effect that simultaneously minimizes the appearance of fine lines, sets our foundation, and evens out our skin tone. Rather than leaving a powdery matte finish, it's only a slightly matte finish — not unlike the texture of skin.
It's also enriched with hyaluronic acid, which is extremely hydrating. So, even though this powder absorbs excess oil, it moisturizes at the same time. Talk about technological breakthroughs. And, it can even be used on its own, to improve the appearance of makeup-free skin. For those days when we just want to look like our natural selves but with a better complexion, this is a wonderful thing, indeed.
We recommend applying it with a big, fluffy brush. MUFE makes a great Kabuki Brush that works wonders with this powder, but really anything soft and large will do. The key is to use a tiny bit, and gently buff it on. Then, watch as it transforms your face.
