Lost in the West: The Demure Stripper Style of “Paris, Texas”

screen0930a
The film Paris, Texas (1984) is directed by Wim Wenders and stars Nastassja Kinski as Jane, the lost young mother working at a sex club. Not yet having lost her sweet vulnerability, Jane's occupational wardrobe of choice is the pre-requisite micro mini dress with a sultry low cut back balanced by fabric in the softest hot pink angora, maintaining her sexy, without the gaudy display.Sitting in booths decorated to look like scenes from Mid-Western cafeterias and motel rooms, talking to sex club customers on telephones behind one way glass, Jane wears sheer black stockings and a simple, blouson-sleeve black mini dress. Her short blond bobbed haircut is a perfect example of how dumping a bottle of peroxide on your head can sometimes work and close ups on her lonely face intensify the soft melancholy in her darkly lined eyes. She may be a little confused, but at least she doesn't look trashy.

This is a bittersweet Mid-West fable about loss, longing, alienation and how a suggestively sexy back can be more effective than a vulgar front in your choice of super micro minis for Fall. For Jane's subtle sexpot look we love Opening Ceremony's open back mini dress, the Vanessa Bruno slouchy v-neck sweater and Alexander Wang's boucle sweater dress. Wear with the black ribbed tights from Urban Outfitters and a pair of snake heels by F-Troupe.
