Lookbook Love: Gypsy's Crystal Visions Leave Us Starry-Eyed

While you'll fast find our favorite designer's most-recent collection in our closets, we're often guilty (shh!) of leaving that dresser drawer of intimates to languish far too long without perking it up with new things. So, forgive us for gushing, but when Gypsy's new Crystal Visions collection crossed our desks, we let out a collective sigh of relief at the sight of these sublime bralettes and undies that promised to give our top drawer a serious (and cosmically cool) makeover.

The lookbook, set in a beachy stargazing wonderland, is a totally transportive experience that has left us madly in love with these super-soft, handmade-in-Hawaii intimates. But the Gypsy girl isn't shy and retiring — the line does dreamy with an edge á la Stevie Nicks (hence the name). Lush pinks and tangerines blend in a tie-dye print bralette, and turquoise feathers mingle with snakeskin in a watercolor-print bikini.

We love how Gypsy's designs balance easy, wearable shapes with pretty prints to keep things interesting. And, there's nothing quite like a hot, printed panty to get you motivated to get dressed on hump day, or a studded brassiere sneaking out of your neckline to spice up a Saturday night. Don't you agree?

Sneak a peek at these lovelies, and quickly because they're all limited edition! As for us, we'll take one of each please.

6 Bold Brooches To Cure Your Friendship-Bracelet Fatigue

We never need an excuse to add a bit of bling to our daily duds, but sometimes we tire of weight around our necks, moldy Coachella friendship bracelets, and just can't bring ourselves to don our favorite chandeliers again. Feeling out of options, too?

Enter the brooch. This unexpected sister of the statement necklace is easily forgotten, but shouldn't be! Here's why: Unlike some other jewelry, lapel pins are never out of place. In fact, the less obvious the placement, the fresher they look.

Our styling tips? Cluster three off-center on your chest, use one to cinch that deep V, or be bold and wear one on your shoulder (classic and seriously cool). Nestle one in that lightweight summer scarf when the sun goes down at a backyard Venice BBQ, dress up a trusty cross-body at The Pikey, or accentuate the pocket line on your cutoffs at the Rose Bowl — believe us, the options are endless.

And, apparently, we aren't the only peeps interested in bringing brooches back. Click through for far-out and fab options from all your fave e-tailers and designers! Now how's that for brooching the accessories subject?

My Style: Rachel Pally Shows Us Around Her Los Feliz Digs

If you stalk celeb style like us, then Rachel Pally must seem like an old pal (pun intended). If not, here's the 411: She’s the brilliant designer behind all of those super-flattering maxis you’ve seen on everyone from SJP and Beyoncé to Jennifer Aniston and Katy Perry. As you can see from the dazzling list of her famous fans, Pally's threads are versatile enough for every style sentiment. But the best part is, these fine jersey frocks are comfy-yet-cool enough to wear during an errand-packed afternoon or a swank-ified night. And, after hanging with this West Coast empress, we found that Pally's personality and airy abode are just as warm and inviting as her wares. Want proof? Cruise through to read our fun convo with the designer, peep some seriously stunning interior snaps, and get ready to really try RP on for size.

If you get the shopping itch after all that talk about pretty clothes (we don't blame you!) — we also happen to have a super-exclusive Reserve deal, offering $100 off of everything on Rachel's site. Check it out on our Reserve site. See you in the tabloids next? We hope so!

Eastside V. Westside — Who Wins L.A.'s Street Style Battle Royale…

There's no doubt about it: Serious style lurks in every nook and cranny of Los Angeles. But when it comes to the cutting-edge factor, another sure bet is that the outliers downtown and at the beach bring it best. There are miles and temp differences between the two 'hoods, which means they forge contrasting fashion frontiers. And every resident on either side of the compass claims their coffee, cocktails, and art have the most clout (we never engage in these debates, eek!).

Truth be told, we love to get a taste of it all. That's why we played both fields, and spent two lovely nights at the Downtown Artwalk and Abbot Kinney First Fridays, basking in the revelry both artsy functions bring. And we didn't forget to pack our cameras, either. While both ends of the map gave great face, we're on the fence about whether the city slickers or the beach babes claim all the glory in our street scenes (Mom told us never to play favorites!). So, we're letting you in on this cool contest: Defend the honor of the ladies of your locale in the comments below. We'll let you go ahead and duke it out. But, no matter what zip code you call home, we promise you'll be satisfied and inspired by our sartorial snaps.

Wear Your Heart On Your Feet: You're Going to Flip Out Over These Flops!

Pardon us if you feel it's TMI, but we're going to give you some full disclosure on our feet: They're repeat offenders in a very unacceptable way. We've donned a single pair of Havaianas to the beach for the past five years flat! And while we love 'em, the only excuse we can offer up for our lone soles is that it's tough out there in the world of flops. We're sure you agree: Finding a pair that suits your style (sans the tacky factor) requires a lot of footwork, right? But whether we want to admit it or not, rubber sandals are a summer wardrobe staple, so it's important to diversify our peds' portfolio.

Well, we're proud to announce that new site Sandalista, is here to help us step it up — and the possibilities are endless. This innovative e-tailer allows you to choose a cool design for your flip-flops from a slew of amazing artists. Plus, the best feature, you can even upload your own images onto the sole! We've got a whole gallery of some Stephen Campbell renderings ready to be snatched-up and slipped-on (the L.A. collage highlights some of our fave spots to rock flops), but we're thinking some Tom Ford cat-eyes or Instagrammed pics of the Lala skyline would also speak for our feet just fine. What would you emblazon on the bottom of your new pair? Let us know in the comments below!

Finally! Peep Rodarte's Stage-Stealing Costumes For 'Don Giovanni'

Along with the rest of the fashion universe, we've been chomping at the bit to catch a glimpse of Kate and Laura Mulleavy's first foray into opera. Not that they haven't had a ton of costume experience under their belts — who could forget when the insanely talented sibs took a sartorial stab at tutus and tiaras for Black Swan? But, unless you're Dakota Fanning or an Editor-in-Chief sitting front row at Fashion Week, it's rare to witness Rodarte's splendor in the flesh.

Rejoice! Angelenos can now take in Rodarte's couture-like creations at the L.A. Philharmonic debut of Mozart’s Don Giovanni come May 26th. Plus, the Pasadena natives are working with a slew of artistic heavyweights! Frank Gehry is responsible for those larger-than-life sets and choreographer Benjamin Millepied (aka NatPo's baby daddy) is debuting new routines. And what would a theatre production be without dramatic hair and makeup!? Radarte recruited their go-to beauty crew — hairstylist Odile Gilbert and James Kaliardos of NARS Cosmetics — for the runway-ready looks.

With costumes that feature more than 130,000 Swarovski crystals, this show is sure to stun. And if a trip downtown isn't in your near future, settle for our breathtaking slideshow right here.

When: Thursday, May 24 and Saturday, May 26, 8 p.m.
Where: Walt Disney Concert Hall at L.A. Phil, 111 South Grand Avenue (Between West 1st and West 2nd Streets); 323-850-2000.

8 Runway-Inspired Items For A Not-So-Basic Black And White Abode

Let's put it this way: We've been spending a lot of time on Pinterest, searching the term "cabana." But, in truth, we don't even have a pool. That doesn't mean we can't dream, right? Amid exploring countless color-soaked boards, we knew we'd found the perfect combination of summery and beach chic when we caught wind of this fresh Spring '12 Moschino look. It's the ideal inspiration for our fantasy poolside chill chamber!

But intersecting organic down-to-earth neutrals with streaks of black and white doesn't have to be confined to our pipe-dream pool house. This graphic palate is also a great foundation for one's current L.A. interior to keep things feeling warm, light, and just dressed up enough all year long.

The key is to pare things down with neutral weaves and kick it up with just the right amount of sleek ebony to keep things feeling crisp. So, if when that fantasy hilltop Mid-Century modern becomes a reality, your décor will be prepped and ready to move right in!

The It Sisters Of VanJess Show Us They Can Carry More Than A Tune

If you're not willing to subject yourself to scathing criticism on Idol (hey, at least Simon's gone!), finding rags-to-riches success in the music industry might seem like a pipe dream. But really, forget that primetime rat race. YouTube is the ticket to success for any aspiring vocalist with talent these days. Just look at YT vet Justin Bieber rolling around town in his Ferrari! To bring things full circle, the VanJess wonder women we're featuring today started out in '08 covering tunes by the Biebs and Beyoncé, and are now well on their way to becoming (we hope), the next M.I.A. (x2).

With over 220,000 subscribers and 48 million vid views, Nigerian-American sisters Jessica and Ivana have voices like songbirds and style like stone-cold foxes. And there's no sibling rivalry here, either. The two amigas share clothes freely and jam out to everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Stevie Wonder (they even people-watch together for inspiration!). We love grooving to their R&B-meets-rock sound, always spewed from poppy MAC-drenched pouts, so we went behind the screens to find out what they're all about. Cruise our crazy-stylish snaps, and get your free fix online while you can — we're pretty sure the A&R dudes are hot on their tails! Next thing you know, it will be them behind the wheel of a hot ride (can't you picture a pink vintage convertible in their futures?).

Sheer Madness: Charlize Theron And Kristen Stewart Play The Matching Game

rexusa_1044030ao

Sure, we may try to laugh it off, but deep down inside we’re pretty devastated when we’re at a soirée and suddenly a “she stole my look” moment rears its ugly head. So, we can only imagine how Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart felt when they both arrived at the Snow White And The Huntsman premiere donning crazy-similar gowns (uh oh!).

Maybe it was the movie’s dark theme that inspired both gals to opt for long, sheer black dresses — or maybe they planned it. Who knows. We’ll probably never get to the bottom of the matching mystery, but it looks like the ladies had a lovely time, either way. However, we do think this warrants a “who wore it best” poll, no? Have at it — take to the comments and fill us in on whose version of the look you like better.

3 Moms & Daughters Play Dress-Up In L.A.'s Loveliest Closets

For us, some of the most memorable moments of childhood took place just outside our mommas' closets. Remember gaining entrée to that wonderland of womanhood for the first time? How about when she gifted you your first set of pearls, or zipped you into your prom dress? It's funny that this storage space can hold so much of life's weight.

So many moms have been collecting a lifetime of finery — and memories — all marking the evolutions of their own styles. Whether they were Mossimo or Chanel, her prized possessions were the epitome of chic in our eyes, and we had to get our hands on them — even if we had to do it clandestine-style! Well, now that we're all grown up, we've snapped two lovely mom-daughter duos (and one trio!) inside closets we're clamoring for (they're bigger than our apartments), and they all have plenty of tales to tell. And, these lovely ladies are here to prove that this room is not just a useful place to hang clothes — but rather, a sanctuary filled with timeless mementos. Click through, and we promise you won't experience anything resembling buyer's remorse.
