Digging Boyish Brows? Get The Look In 3 Steps

r29-boyish-brows The bold brow trend is in full swing and we’re seriously digging the boyish brow look spotted at Alexander Wang and Chloé. What’s not love to about straight and shaded arches? They add structure to the face and feels androgynously sexy but not mannish.

We asked LA-based celeb makeup artist Kerry Malouf (who primps the likes of Emmy Rossum, Amanda Seyfried and Ginnifer Goodwin) to spill her brow-shaping secrets. Side note: she also happens to be Martin Scorsese’s occasional primper (now those are some serious brows). Wondering what that's like? Malouf dished to us that she’s not even allowed to trim those bad boys: “I can only brush.” But when it comes to your own face, you should feel free to trim, just a little bit. Read on for Malouf's super-simple tips to boyish brows — we promise they won’t end up looking like Scorsese’s!

Step 1: Use a clean mascara wand and comb (try this Mac Lash Brush) through the brows to make them look groomed and neat. Follow by using tiny scissors to trim away any wild hairs.

Step 2: With a brow pencil or a matte powder eye shadow (we suggest Clinique Brow Shaper), fill in your brow with feathery strokes to create your desired shape. When it comes to matters of the brow, always be light-handed for a natural (not drawn-on) effect. Malouf suggests practicing on a piece of paper until you get it just right.

Step 3: For that boyish effect, keep the shape as straight as possible, all the way across, with no arch. Fill in the gaps and minimize your natural arch with your pencil—Kerry personal pick is Maybelline Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil. Be sure you have a couple of Q-tips and a hard-working makeup remover handy, just in case you have any screw-ups.

Rad Or Bad: Would You Zinka In 2011?

We all remember Spicoli’s Zinka Nosecoat from Fast Times At Ridgemont High, but most of us thought this trend in sun-care was left in the ‘80s. Well, we were wrong, because last week at the U.S. Open Of Surfing in Huntington Beach, we spied more than a few beach-goers rocking this neon skincream. While we certainly appreciate the nostalgic nod to SoCal surfer history—and any product that protects our skin from harmful U.V. rays is okay by us—but do you think Zinka should make a comeback, or should we leave this crazy neon goo in the dust? Getting The Royal Treatment for Your Skin Isn't Cheap

Just because you're a celebrity—or even royalty—doesn't mean you don't need some assistance with your beauty regime. And when it comes to beauty, Kate Middleton and her glowing skin have taken the world's stage by storm. So, what's her secret? Well, it appears that she covets another celebrity's glowing complexion, namely, British actress Sienna Miller, who's under the care of Dr. David Colbert, dermatologist to the stars. As you might have guessed, his recommended products are a bit pricey ($537 for five items), but if you want to look like you should be married at Westminster Abbey, or walking down the red carpet at a movie debut, this may be the ticket. Model Erin O'Connor Pulls Off The Perfect Coral Lip

Erin O'Connor's vivid red-orange lip color at London's Serpentine Gallery party mounts a case for mixing brights—of the pink and coral variety. It's almost venturing into uncharted territory, pairing a bright-coral lip with a Cavalli dress baring shades of pink and purple, but O'Connor makes her bold color choices work, thanks in part to her sleek bob and blunt bangs. Consider us obsessed.

Zoe Saldana Shows Us How To Wear Blue Makeup Without Looking Like Mimi

zoe saldana harpers bazaar russia july 2011 Though the idea of blue eye makeup may conjure visions of sky-blue, '80s-gone-bad eyeshadows, Zoe Saldana's new Harper's Bazaar Russia cover proves you can pull it off with sophistication. Her hue of blue is toned down to a pale metallic and kept close to the lash line, evoking a totally classy, far from trashy feel. And, the look more than complements her bright red lips. If this is the new blue, then we're all for it.

Eight-Year-Old's Mom Defends Giving Her Botox

Suddenly we are sorry we just ate lunch, because this mother has our stomach in knots. We got wind of this story a few months ago about a mother who administered Botox to her eight-year-old in order to get rid of little Britney Campbell's "wrinkles," and stay on her A-game for the super competitive (and super creepy) world of kiddie pageants. We can only hope we misunderstood the headlines, but alas, mother Kerry—who apparently is also an esthetician—appeared on Good Morning America today defending her daughter's treatments while refusing to share where she was sourcing the Botox from. Kerry says her daughter didn't ask for Botox, but was unhappy about the wrinkles that she acquired on her less-than-ten-year-old. Oh, and Britney also gets her legs waxed, because it's not "ladylike to have hair on your legs," she says. The only thing more heartbreaking than this little girl's skewed reality, is her mother's. Weird Science: Study Says Botox Can Deaden Empathy

Like it or not, L.A. is known as the plastic surgery capital of the states, but it looks like there is one more reason to skip the injections: According to an article in USA Today, Botox can dull your ability to understand the emotions of others. A scientific study published in the journal Social Psychology and Personality Science suggests that part of the way we are able to read others’ emotions is my mimicking their facial expressions, and if facial muscles are frozen or paralyzed by injections like Botox or Restylane, you are then less-able to identify emotion on others, and can even affect your ability to relate emotionally to them. Call us crazy, but we’d take empathy over wrinkles any day of the week.
