Say Sayonara To The June Gloomies With Our 12 Indoor-Fun Ideas

Mother Nature can be such a tawdry tease. On Memorial Day, we were busting out our (high-waisted) bikinis, and then the next thing you know, the fickle forecast calls for a month of doom and gloom. Listen, we know it's hardly the pits when The Weather Channel predicts a sunless 70 degrees, but it's not exactly unicorns and rainbows at the end of the week, either, when all you want is the beach!
However, since we're always here to be your 24-7 antidepressant, we got our head out of the clouds to help you weather the annoying wrath of every L.A. summer's infancy with these 12 ideas for indoor fun. Grin and bear it 'til July by getting your DIY on at a T-shirt-press palace, channel your inner Impressionist at an edgy art studio, or host a high tea at the Huntington Gardens. The sky's the limit, really — just pick your overcast poison!

Since cloudy weather is such a rare occurrence here, it can sometimes drum up our dramatic sides. Why not get all moody on a blank canvas? This Venice art studio has anime and cartoon classes, nude figure instruction (model included), and they even teach plein air at the beach on the first Sunday of each month (best pack your gray paints for that one)!
PAINT:LAB, 2912 Main Street (between Ashland Avenue and Kinney Street); 310-450-9200.
LACMA
It's hard to hit the museum when your pasty legs beg for a bronzing, but you've got no excuse when the rays are in absentia! Have you seen Chris Burden's Metropolis II sculpture yet? Think 100,000 toy cars whizzing around a mini-"city" at dizzying speeds, sparking a major "How'd he do that?" moment.
Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Boulevard (at South Spaulding Avenue); 323-857-6000.
Arcadia Rock Climbing
Just east of Pasadena, you'll find one of the most massive rock climbing walls in all of the U.S. of A. It's a great way to take your dismal day to new heights, ha! Also, the organization hosts a super-cool overnighter, dubbed "Rock Inn," for a rock around the clock party.
Arcadia Rock Climbing, 305 North Santa Anita Avenue (at La Porte Street); 626-294-9111.
Other Notables:
The Rose Garden Tea Room and Café at The Huntington Library, 1151 Oxford Road (between Orlando and Stratford roads); 626-683-8131.

There are so many amazing blockbusters hitting the big screens this summer! What better time to get your cinema on than a Saturday when the weather makes you feel like sulking? Our top picks: Lola Versus with Greta Gerwig and Pixar's Brave (who didn't tear up a bit watching that trailer?).
ArcLight Theater Cinerama Dome, 6360 West Sunset Boulevard (at Ivar Avenue); 323-464-1478.
FIDM Museum
This is the one month the concrete jungle of L.A. won't scorch the hide from your back, so we highly recommend you pack in a full day of fun. Start at FIDM's Lucien Lelong spread of couture gowns from the icon's empire (admission's free!). If you haven't heard of him — even more reason to pop by. You can thank the '20s wunderkind for hand-picking designers like Balmain, Dior, and Givenchy — and he dressed screen sirens like Marlene Dietrich on the reg. After you've gotten your fashion fix, here's an entire itin to hit up afterwards.
Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Museum, 919 South Grand Avenue (at West 9th Street); 213-623-5821.
Golden Road Brewing
Situated right next to The Brewery Colony, this is your spot to knock a few back if you're feeling a Sunday funday (or funk-day because of the icky elements outside). It's got custom IPAs galore, all made with local ingredients. The venue often hosts tastings, too, so check the schedule for a slew of ice-cold brews!
Golden Road Brewing, 5410 West San Fernando Road (at West Doran Street); 213-373-4677.

This spot has playtime to spare with snacks, booze, and a killer playlist. Time really does fly with this type of fun: We've stepped inside in the morning, and stumbled out to find it was dark outside!

The Raven Spa
Somber weather calls for downtime in the form of a long spa day! We've given you plenty of ahh spots in the past, but we recently checked out The Raven and are totally raving about it! Do some yoga, get an acupuncture treatment, and definitely try the traditional Thai massage.
The Raven Spa, 2910 Rowena Avenue (at Herkimer Street); 323-644-0240.

SoulCycle
For all of you beach-body procrastinators out there (don't worry we ate an entire Damiano's pizza last night), there's no time like the overcast present to whip yourself into last-minute shape! Spin is probably the best way to bust your ass fast, and we'll be burning our carbs at SoulCycle.
